The Jim Beam distillery was founded by Jakob Böhm, who was of German descent. The son of German emigrants moved from Pennsylvania to Maryland at the age of 18 to grow grain. As payment for grinding grain, Böhm received grain from the farmers, which he used to produce whiskey.
