The name Black Bottle Scotch Whisky comes from the original black bottle in which this blended whisky was bottled. These black bottles were imported from Germany at the time, but their import had to be stopped in 1914 with the start of the First World War. Since then, Black Bottle Scotch Whisky has been bottled in the well-known green bottle and is adorned with the unmistakable black label. Due to a fire in one of the distilleries producing it, the Black Bottle Scotch Whisky was temporarily forgotten and was finally revitalized in the 1990s and relaunched as a blend of Islay malt whiskies.The Black Bottle Scotch Whisky has since boasted that it contains whiskies from all seven Islay distilleries. This is probably no longer the case today, but Islay whiskies definitely form the backbone of the Black Bottle Scotch Whisky.
