Corn Whiskey - American Whiskey from Corn!

Corn whiskey is a relatively unknown American whiskey variety in Germany. It is similar to bourbon and Tennessee whiskey. Corn whiskey is made with a corn content of at least 79%, whereas the production of Tennessee and bourbon whiskey uses only a minimum of 51% corn. Well-known brands producing this quite sweet and "moonshine" like whiskey include Balcones Distillery and Heaven Hill.

Corn Whiskey – American Whiskey with at least 79% Corn Content

Corn whiskey is similar to bourbon and Tennessee whiskey, but it differs in that it must be made with more than 80% corn. Due to the high corn content, corn whiskey tastes relatively light and less spicy than bourbon or rye whiskey. Many connoisseurs note that corn whiskey has a certain similarity to "moonshine whiskey," or illicitly distilled whiskey. Like bourbon and rye whiskey, corn whiskey can be distilled up to a maximum of 80% ABV and can be aged in both new and used barrels. This distinguishes it from bourbon and rye, which must be aged exclusively in new barrels. Corn whiskey that is aged only in new barrels is referred to as straight corn whiskey.
