Corn Whiskey

When you think of American whiskey, bourbon whiskey and rye whiskey spring to mind. Corn whiskey, which makes up a considerable proportion of the whiskeys produced in the USA, is far too often overlooked.

Corn whiskey is a whiskey whose mash must contain at least 80% corn and which is distilled to a maximum of 80% ABV. In contrast to moonshine, which is also well known in this country thanks to a TV series, corn whiskey is subjected to a completely regular mashing process and of course must also be officially taxed.

In contrast to other American whiskeys, corn whiskey does not have to be stored in wooden barrels. If it is, then already used or uncharred barrels are used, which means it retains its light and fruity taste.

Although corn whiskey makes up a large part of the annual whiskey production in the USA, it is rarely sold as a regular bottling. The Platte Valley Corn Whiskey

The Platte Valley is one of the few corn whiskeys that is also sold as such.
