Willett Family Estate Rye Whiskey 3 years 0.05L 54% Background information about the Willet Family Estate Rye Whiskey 3 years: The Willet Distilling Company is a family-run whiskey distillery in Bardstown, in the US state of Kentucky. The distillery was founded in 1935, shortly after the end of Prohibition. During the energy crisis in the 1970s, whiskey production was stopped in favor of the production of ethanol fuel. However, the rapid return to normal gasoline prices brought an abrupt end to this initiative. Luckily, you would think, because since the distillery reopened in 1984, this time under the name KBD: Kentucky Bourbon Distillers, it has produced some excellent bourbon and rye whiskeys. Willet's rye whiskeys in particular are now in great demand around the world. Corresponding qualities with a double-digit age can only be purchased for high three- or four-digit sums and are therefore only affordable for a few people. It is all the more wonderful that Willet regularly releases rye whiskeys from the Family Estate series. These strictly limited special editions, which have been stored for different lengths of time, come onto the market at cask strength and are all characterized by their great combination of strong rye spice and sweet vanilla and caramel notes. The Willet Family Estate Rye Whiskey 3 years is no exception. This exceptional whiskey is made from 100% rye and was stored for 36 months in hand-selected barrels made of American white oak. Despite its comparatively young age, the Willet Family Estate Rye Whiskey 3 years impresses with its complexity and aromatic and flavor intensity. The high alcohol content of 55% vol. also plays a decisive role in this. Fans of the Willet distillery and lovers of strong rye whiskey should therefore definitely snap up the Willet Family Estate Rye Whiskey 3 years while the limited stock lasts. Tasting the Willet Family Estate Rye 3 years: The first thing that surprises you is the deep dark (and absolutely natural) color of the Willet Family Estate Rye Whiskey 3 years. A mixture of bronze, amber and mahogany promises intense barrel aromas even before the first sip. The Willet Family Estate Rye Whiskey 3 years impresses on the nose with an indescribably clear, well-defined rye spice. Freshly baked bread, gingerbread, ground pepper and oak are accompanied by vanilla, caramel, cream toffees and honey. The wonderfully balanced aromas are perfectly coordinated and very appealing. Undiluted, the Willet Family Estate Rye Whiskey 3 years shows its strong side on the palate. The rye spice sweeps over the tongue and creates a real explosion of taste buds. Here, too, a wonderfully interwoven interplay of sweetness and spiciness is evident. The Willet Family Estate Rye Whiskey 3 years tolerates a little water exceptionally well. The aromas open up and become noticeably fruitier. In terms of taste, the rye and oak spices are softened, and overall the Willet Family Estate Rye Whiskey 3 years is softer and gentler. This makes the Willet Family Estate Rye Whiskey 3 years a really successful tipple that underlines the position of the Willet distillery in the long term. Unreserved recommendation.
Journeyman Last Feather Rye Whiskey Miniature 0.05L 45% The story behind the Journeyman Distillery When the founder of the Journeyman Distillery considered opening a distillery, he realized that he had to do an apprenticeship first. He lived in Scotland for a few years and learned the ins and outs of a whisky distillery. He knew that making whisky was something he enjoyed and that he wanted to get into the business. In 2010, he began an apprenticeship at Koval Distillery in Chicago. They are known for first-class, organic-certified and even kosher spirits in the Midwest. There he developed his own recipes and during this time he perfected the one that would later become THE recipe for 'Last Feather Rye'. The distillery is located in an old building of a former corset and whip factory in Three Oaks, Michigan. The building dates back to the 1800s and the above-mentioned products were manufactured there until the 19th century, when it was finally able to accommodate the Journeyman Distillery after extensive renovation work. The distillery gets the ingredients for the whiskey mainly from local producers, and the special blend of rye and wheat as well as a small amount of barley to round off the taste come from farmers in the Midwest. Last Feather Rye The Last Feather Rye whiskey is the company's flagship product. It is one of the few rye whiskeys that is also very wheat-heavy. This offers a pleasant spiciness from the rye and a slight sweetness from the wheat. After distillation, Journeyman Last Feather Rye Whisky is bottled in new barrels made of American white oak. The taste is of ripe banana mixed with spices and spicy pepper. If you don't dare to grab a large bottle straight away, you now have the option of purchasing the Last Feather Rye in a sample size of 0.05l per bottle.
