Macallan Single Malt Whisky Sherry Wood 12 years, 0.7 L, 40% The history of Macallan Macallan is one of the most traditional malt whisky distilleries in Scotland. Macallan is one of the first legal distilleries in the country and was granted the right to distill in 1824. Several changes of ownership followed and from 1965 the number of stills was steadily increased in order to meet the growing demand. The six stills that were there in 1965 have now been increased to 21. With these seven wash stills and 14 spirit stills, Macallan currently produces around 6,000,000 litres of malt whisky annually. Due to their enormous complexity, Macallan's bottlings are equally popular with blenders and single malt connoisseurs, which is why special bottlings like this Macallan Sherry Wood 12 years often quickly disappear from the market. The enormous quality of Macallan makes it one of the most sought-after malt whiskies of all, with lovers sometimes paying dizzying sums for older bottlings. The production of the Macallan Sherry Wood 12 years Until a few years ago, The Macallan matured all of its whiskies in Oloroso sherry casks and received recognition from all sides for its excellent quality. The 12-year-old whisky offered here is still surrounded by sherry-saturated wood, making the Macallan Single Malt Scotch Whisky Sherry Wood 12 years a true pearl. Single Malt Whisky – the Unique One Among Whiskies!
Why is Single Malt Whisky unique? The name says it all: "Single". This type of whisky is called so because it comes from a single distillery – unlike other whiskies, which are blended from various distillates. As a reliable online spirits shop, we naturally offer a wide selection in our malt whisky shop. We would like to explain what exactly makes malt whisky special. Firstly, it is the grain raw material from which malt whisky is made. This consists exclusively of malted barley. Hence the name "Malt" Whisky, which means "malt" whisky in English. Among spirits, the "water of life" is considered one of the noblest and highest quality – and is a must at any spirits counter.
The high quality is also due to the exceptionally long aging and maturation period, which often exceeds a decade. The age statement refers to the youngest cask used in which the single malt whisky has matured. However, this type of whisky goes through several production steps before you can buy it online. It starts with malting the barley. For this, the barley is soaked in spring water for a few days, then spread out on a surface and turned and dried for up to two weeks. The so-called wort produced through this process is poured into large vessels and fermented by adding yeast. This results in an initial alcohol content of 5%. Then, the consistency is distilled, while the rising vapors of the still unfinished whisky are condensed to an alcohol content of up to 24%. This process is repeated, in short, until the alcohol content rises to 65%-70%. The distillate is then filled into oak barrels and aged for at least three years. During this time, about two percent of the alcohol evaporates each year – only then can the alcohol be called whisky.
In the finishing stage, the flavor is specified by transferring the distillates to other barrels that previously held sherry, rum, or wine after years of aging. Finally, the malt whisky is mixed with water until it reaches an alcohol content of 40% to 46%. This results in four different flavor profiles, which you can also buy online 24 hours a day in our malt whisky shop: smoky, from the smoke used to dry the barley; soft, as the barley was dried without smoke; light, when the whisky has a fruity taste of green grass; and rich, when the aroma has a vanilla influence. But why not see for yourself by ordering your favorite whisky – in our extensive whisky world right here!
Malt Whisky – Single Malt Whisky from the Finest Barley Malt
Malt whisky is made exclusively from barley malt, water, and yeast. It is the most original of all whiskies and the term "water of life" also refers to it. Malt Scotch whisky is divided into two groups. Straight Malt Whisky, which can only contain distillates from one distillery, and Vatted Malt Whisky, which can contain malt whisky from several distilleries. Straight Malt Whisky is further divided into four subcategories. The most famous is Single Malt Whisky, which contains only distillates from a single distillery. The superior version of Single Malt Whisky is Single Single Malt Whisky, for which only a single distillation run of a whisky distillery is used. Additionally, there is Pure Single Malt, which is a distillate from several casks, and Single Cask Malt, which is malt whisky bottled from a single cask and is therefore often strictly limited.
