Macallan Highland Single Malt Whisky Enigma 0.7L 44.9% The history of Macallan Macallan is considered one of the most renowned distilleries in the whisky industry worldwide, and the limited and older bottlings in particular are highly valued by whisky connoisseurs and collectors. The distillery can look back on an eventful history that began in 1824. In that year, Alexander Reid was granted a distilling license, making The Macallan one of the first legal distilleries in Scotland. When Alexander Reid died in 1847, his son of the same name took over the business, but he died just 11 years later, meaning the distillery became the property of James Davidson and James Shearer Priest, who in turn sold it 10 years later to James Stuart, the then owner of the Glen Spey distillery. In 1882, The Macallan was finally acquired by Roderick Kemp, whose family ran the distillery for the next 100 years and, among other things, significantly increased the number of stills and thus output. First, the number was increased from 6 to 12 in 1965, and finally to 18 in 1974 and 21 in 1975. The Macallan is now part of the Edrington Group, which also has well-known brands such as Highland Park and The Famous Grouse in its portfolio. What many connoisseurs do not know is that Macallan is an important ingredient in the blended whisky "The Famous Grouse" and is generally very popular among blenders. Up until the 1960s, it was used exclusively for blended whiskies and the first single malt bottlings only slowly came onto the market. The Macallan's single malt whiskies were introduced on a larger scale in the 1980s when The Macallan's whisky bottlings were brought onto the market across the UK. Macallan single malts are now available and sought after almost worldwide. The Macallan Enigma The Macallan Enigma is the fourth and highest quality bottling from the Macallan Quest series. The Quest series from Macallan is intended to highlight wood as one of the most important "ingredients" in whisky production and to illustrate the strong influence that wood has on the taste of the whisky. It should also be noted that there are challenges in sourcing high-quality wood, the continuous availability of which cannot be taken for granted, as it often has to be brought in from distant countries and cultures. For The Macallan Enigma, only former sherry casks from a famous cooperage in Jerez de la Frontera in Spain were used in order to bring out the original, authentic taste of The Macallan as accurately as possible. The Macallan Enigma therefore captures the full sherry power of dried fruits, rich cinnamon aromas and gentle wood notes. The extremely long aftertaste brings these aromas to the fore once again and lets you enjoy every sip with a smile.

Macallan Single Malt Whisky Concept Number 2 2019 0.7L 40% Malt distillery from Speyside Another distillery located in Speyside that has been producing whisky for over 200 years is The Macallan distillery. If the company had not been lost in 1996, it would have been one of the last independent companies today, like Glenfiddich, Glenfarclas or Springbank. At that time, however, Highland Distillers made a takeover offer to the company, which was actually well below its market value. However, an earlier deal was the downfall of the entrepreneurs and they had to sell. In an earlier financial uncertainty, a 25% share was sold to the Japanese Suntory company, and Rémy also owned 1%. Highland Destillers acquired these company shares, made a pact with Suntory and from then on owned the majority of shares in Macallan. One could only hope that this takeover would not cause Macallan Whisky to lose its good reputation as the 'Rolls Royce' of whisky, but fortunately it hasn't. Today it still wins prizes in numerous tastings and record prices are paid at auctions for old Macallan bottlings. Concept No. 2 It is the second of three bottlings in the Concept series from Macallan. The special thing about this bottling is that it targets the two passions of master blender Steven Bremner. He combines whisky and music. Whisky & music, how do they fit together? Bremner says that making whisky is in some ways the same as creating a song. First, the base note must be determined, with whisky this is the basic taste, then you can build up layer by layer around it. With both products, individual elements can be changed to go either in one direction or the other. Like Concept No. 1, No. 2 was also matured in different barrels. The longer maturation phase took place in Miguel Martin sherry barrels, followed by a finish in ex-bourbon barrels. The tasting notes show aromas of toffee, stewed apples and a hint of vanilla. Oak wood and spicy notes complement the taste. The finish also clearly shows pleasantly sweet aromas, accompanied by spices and toffe.

Caperdonich Speyside Single Malt Whisky 18 years 0.7L 48% Caperdonich Distillery If you have never heard this name before, you may be more familiar with the name 'Glen Grant No. 2', as the distillery was originally built as a kind of clone next to the Glen Grant distillery. That was in 1902, in the middle of the whisky boom, but this phase quickly died down and the distillery found it difficult to sell its whisky. So production was mothballed for the first time and leftover whisky served as a reserve for Glen Grant. In the middle of the twentieth century there was a second wave of the whisky boom, but here too the founders of Glen Grant No. 2 did not really succeed in emerging from the shadow of the large distillery and so it was closed in 2002 and completely demolished just under ten years later. However, some independent bottlers still own one or two of the distillery's barrels and so whisky lovers can still enjoy one of their whiskies today. Caperdonich 18 years Buying whisky from a distillery that has been shut down and demolished for several years is a special feature in itself. But to then receive an original bottling from the distillery surpasses this special feature many times over and makes every collector's heart beat faster. In 2019, the last owner of the Caperdonich distillery, Chivas Brothers, decided to release small batches from the remaining barrels and make them available as special series for the travel retail market. One of these bottlings is the 18 YO Peated Small Batch Releases, which matured in barrels made of fresh oak after distillation. The aroma on the nose is a mix of memories of campfires, peat soil and fresh notes of ginger and orange. Phenolic peat notes are also revealed on the palate, along with fruity apple notes and sweet cane sugar.

Macallan Edition No. 6 Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky 0.7L 48.6% Without packaging Success story since 1824 Scotland's first legal distillery has stood for the very best whisky since the early 1824s. At first, only blended whisky was produced on the banks of the Spey, but over the years, especially from the late 1960s, the company increasingly devoted itself to the production of single malts. But what exactly has contributed to the distillery's immense success, that has caused whisky to increase so enormously in value over the years? The secret of Macallan lies in the art of standing out from the crowd and thus not keeping up with the masses of whisky, as Jim Beam does, for example. The Macallan distillery continually brings strictly limited products onto the market, so they keep a close eye on each individual production and demand for the products remains high. Edition series One of these special 'small batch' bottlings, as they are often called, is the 'Edition series', which has had its last product in the form of 'Edition No. 6'. For Edition No. 6, Master Distiller Steven Bremner used five different cask types during the maturation phase. As is usual with Macallan, this can be seen on the packaging, where you can find the well-known cask image, which shows the cask types in layers. It is characterized by an incredibly harmonious and complex aroma. On the nose, it entices with the sweet aroma of red fruits and toffee, but also with spicy components such as oak and ginger. Ginger is even more evident on the palate, followed by orange notes, nutmeg and oak again. The finish also offers the full force of aromas: a great balance between fruit and spiciness lingers.

Macallan Single Malt Whisky Double Cask 18 Years 0.7L 43% Double Cask 18 Years The 18-year-old Double Cask is also a product from the Double Cask series. Compared to the 12- and 15-year-olds, it is the oldest in the series. For storage, it was decided to divide the whisky into two different types of casks, but what both have in common is that sherry was previously stored in both types. One part matures in American oak casks, another part in European oak casks. In total, the whisky matured for a good 18 years before the two whiskies were married together. The aroma is characterized by dried fruit and a pleasant sweetness due to storage in the sherry-soaked casks. Spice notes such as nutmeg and cloves can also be heard, and the sherry influences are clearly recognizable.

Macallan Masters of Photography Magnum Edition 0.7L 43.7% Masters of Photography Series What better way to celebrate a new opening than with a special edition? That's what Macallan thought too and decided to create a new edition of the well-known Masters of Photography series. This edition, strictly limited to 2000 bottles, even has an additional special feature this time: Compared to the previous edition, several well-known photographers from Magnum Photos were brought on board this time: Alec Soth, Gueorgui Pinkhassov, Steve McCurry, Martin Paar, Paolo Pellergrin and Mark Power worked together on this project and present impressive images of the Macallan distillery. Master distiller Sarah Burgess created the matching whisky. The new edition consists of a total of eight malt barrels. She deliberately chose barrels that have stark contrasts and characteristics to reflect the different photo styles of the photographers. In detail, there are notes of fresh, spicy ginger, oak wood and fresh hints of citrus fruits on the nose. On the palate there are fruity notes of apples and a hint of peat. You can taste honey and other candied dried fruits before the whisky goes into a medium-long finish.
