Get 27 Peppermint Liqueur 0.7L 17.9% History and production of Get 27 Peppermint Liqueur: Not least thanks to its bright green color and striking bottle design, Get 27 is one of the best known and best-selling peppermint liqueurs in the world. It was invented in 1796 by the botanist and chemist François Pons, who ran a small distillery in Revel. Some time later, Victoire Sablier, the daughter of a foreman employed by Pons, married the ambitious Jean Get. This drew the latter's attention to the mint liqueur and he was immediately enthusiastic. He received the recipe and began producing the unique peppermint liqueur together with his brother Pierre. A name was quickly found: Get 27. The number 27 stands for the alcohol content, which at that time was still 27% vol. The brothers based the bottle shape on an old kerosene lamp - a clever move, as it soon turned out. The bottle shape and the green color create a memorable brand image and help the peppermint liqueur to spread nationwide in no time. Today, Get 27 is produced in the southern French town of Beaucaire. The special peppermint varieties come from China and North America. The essential oils of the peppermint are extracted using maceration and distillation and the aroma is captured in liquid form. The exact recipe is top secret and is kept in a Swiss bank vault. Get 27 now belongs to Bacardi and the alcohol content has been reduced to 17.9% vol., but this has not affected the fresh taste.
