Aperol Bitter Aperitif 1.0L 11% A classic Italian aperitif After the famous Campari Bitter, Aperol is probably the best-known aperitif liqueur from Italy. This light bitter has a distinctive red-orange color and a fruity yet subtly bitter taste. The history of Aperol Aperol comes from the northern Italian city of Padua. The tradition of producing spirits there goes back to the century before last. One man who was part of this tradition was Giuseppe Barbieri. He founded his own liqueur company in Padua in 1880. Business was good and the company quickly developed into one of the most progressive companies of the time. It is therefore not surprising that his two sons Luigi and Silvio Barbieri also got into the business. When demand for aperitif liqueurs in Europe, particularly in France, rose sharply at the beginning of the 20th century, the brothers decided to develop their own bitter liqueur. They called their product Aperol and presented it for the first time in 1919 at an international trade fair. The Barbieri brothers' Aperol quickly caused a stir because, contrary to drinking habits at the time, it had a relatively low alcohol content of just 11% vol. In addition to the alcohol content, the unusual combination of ingredients was also something completely new at the time. In the production of Aperol, cinchona bark, rhubarb, gentian, bitter oranges and other aromatic herbs are macerated and the extract is carefully reduced to drinking strength with the purest water and then subtly sweetened. Bell's Original Scotch Whisky Bell's Original Scotch Whisky is one of the most successful standard blends in the world. The gin is a remake of the "Old Tom" style of gin, which was extremely popular in England in the 18th century.It is a slightly sweetened gin that is the basis of many classic cocktail recipes. Ransom Spirits developed its Old Tom Gin with the help of the famous cocktail historian David Wondrich, who also developed a Curaçao with Cognac Ferrand that was named "Spirit of the Year 2013".In the production of Ransom Old Tom Gin, a malty spice is used, which is also why the subtle malt notes on the nose are due to it. After distillation, various herbs and spices are added to the base for maceration and then distilled in small pot stills and the best fraction of the distillation is bottled. At that time, cocktail bitters were an indispensable component of many cocktail creations and distinguished them from other drink categories such as fizzes, slings, sours, punches or toddies. When Prohibition began in 1919, consumers' drinking habits shifted massively. The basic spirits, such as whiskey and gin, were only available from dubious sources and in very poor quality, if at all. High-quality products such as cocktail bitters almost completely disappeared and only a few brands managed to survive the "dry period". When Prohibition was finally over in 1933, the remaining cocktail bitters found it difficult to position themselves in the changed market, as cocktail culture had almost completely come to a standstill. The revival of cocktail bitters It took a surprisingly long time, until 2006 to be precise, for the cocktail bitters segment to gain momentum again. At that time, the two internationally known bartenders Stephan Berg and Alexander Hauck founded the bitters manufacturer "The Bitter Truth" in Munich. The ambitious and clear vision of the two entrepreneurs was to make long-forgotten and thought-lost ingredients available to bartenders and connoisseurs in outstanding quality. The conditions for this were ideal, as both Stephan Berg and Alexander Hauck had already gained experience in the production of cocktail bitters during their time behind the bar, as they made them themselves by hand for the bars in which they worked. In addition, Stephan Berg has one of the most extensive collections of historical cocktail bitters in the world, so that Berg and Hauck knew what the bitters must have tasted like in the past by carefully and purposefully tasting them. As some standard bitters, such as Angostura, were still available, Berg and Hauck searched through old cocktail books for cocktail recipes that could no longer be made true to the original with the bitters available, and for which the revival of old recipes was necessary. In autumn 2006, the first three products from "The Bitter Truth" were finally released: an Orange Bitters, an Aromatic Bitters and a Lemon Bitters. The further development of The Bitter Truth The products from "The Bitter Truth" immediately attracted great interest in the international bar scene and were quickly able to position themselves in some of the most important cocktail bars worldwide, which was certainly also due to the attractive product design by graduate designer Alexander Hauck. Encouraged by the positive response from colleagues, “The Bitter Truth” developed further exciting bitters creations over the next few years, such as Jerry Thomas Own Decanter Bitters, Chocolate Bitters, Creole Bitters, Grapefruit Bitters and a Celery Bitters, which was named “Best Spirit of the Year” at the 2008 Mixology Bar Awards and won the title of “Best New Product” at Tales of the Cocktail New Orleans 2010. Since the company's original idea was to "revive forgotten ingredients", the range was expanded over time to include other niche products such as Violet Liqueur, Apricot Liqueur, Elderflower Liqueur, Orange Flower Water, Rose Water, Pimento Dram, Sloe Gin, Pink Gin, Falernum and the herbal liqueur ELIXIER. The Bitter Truth Peach Bitters - taste Peach is a product that has been used by bartenders for decades - think of the famous Bellini cocktail, for example. Old Tom Gin was a very popular gin style in England long before dry gin and almost led to the collapse of society when the gin craze could only be contained with difficulty in the 17th and 18th centuries. Only in Japan at that time did Old Tom Gin still have a few fans and it appeared there every now and then. Starting the revival of Old Tom Gin Jensen was all the more surprised that this delicious gin was no longer produced in England, even though major brands still had it in their range in the 20th century. After returning to England, he continued to follow the trail of Old Tom Gin and contacted a local distiller to revive it. Through extensive research into suitable spices, Jensen's Dry Gin was first created, which was not the goal but at least the path to Old Tom Gin and produces a wonderful gin & tonic. El Dorado Rum 12 Years 0.7L 40% Guyanese Rum El Dorado Rum 12 Years comes from the South American state of Guyana, which borders Brazil, Suriname and Venezuela as well as the Atlantic. Although Guyana only has a population of around 750,000, the small country can look back on an eventful history in the production of rum. In the heyday of rum production, almost every sugar cane plantation in the country had its own distillery. Of the 200-300 distilleries that once existed, only one remains. But how did the once flourishing industry decline so sharply? To understand this, we need to take a look at the history of the country. The history of rum from Guyana The history of Guyanese rum is closely linked to that of the British Navy. In the 18th century, the three colonies of Demerara, Essequibo and Berbice in Guyana were owned by the Dutch crown. After a slave revolt in 1763, however, their ownership changed hands between the French, Dutch and British. The British were the ones who built the first sugar cane plantations to produce spirits. They needed the liquor for their ship crews. As it was impossible to keep drinking water sterile on long crossings at the time, each sailor was given a ration of 0.5 liters of rum per day to make their water drinkable. The demand was so enormous that more and more plantations and distilleries were built in Guyana, eventually reaching the aforementioned number of 200-300 distilleries. However, due to improved hygiene conditions and microbiological findings, rum on board ships became increasingly pointless and daily rations were steadily reduced. After a long period of being purely traditional, the last rum was finally served on board British ships on July 31, 1970, the so-called Black Tot Day. The ban on rum on board ships also sealed the fate of the distilleries and the last remaining distilleries gradually closed their doors. Only Demerara Distillers remained. However, this distillery is no ordinary one, as many famous stills from the closed distilleries were collected there. These old pot stills and continuous stills are not museum-like, but are still in operation, allowing Demerara Distillers to produce a variety of different rum styles and keep the myth of Guyanese rum alive. El Dorado Rum 12 Years The El Dorado 12 is probably the best-known rum from Demerara Distillers. It was the first rum that company boss Yesu Persaud brought to market. He had the vision early on to create a rum that stood out from the often overwhelmingly heavy style of former Demerara rums. He succeeded in doing this with the El Dorado, which, in addition to the heavy molasses tones, also has fine fruity aromas of orange and pineapple. El Dorado Rum 12 Years is an outstanding rum that is a real treat both neat and in cocktails and long drinks. Absolute recommendation!
