This is also produced on the island of Mauritius. Even if you think of the Caribbean when you think of rum, Mauritius has a long tradition when it comes to rum production. The oldest distillery still in operation on the island was built in 1926 and still produces extremely popular rums today, such as the Penny Blue XO Mauritian Rum. The Beach House Spiced Similar to the Penny Blue XO Mauritian Rum, the Beach House Spiced is an extremely high-quality spirit, which in this case is mixed with various herbs and spices. The base is a stored rum, in which the herbs, fruits and spices are then macerated. After the maceration is complete, the Beach House Spiced is bottled at a strong 40% ABV. This is relatively high for a spiced spirit and underlines the quality of the Beach House. It is bottled in attractive bottles, which are sealed with a high-quality natural cork.     Gin

    Gin was first known as a medicine for stomach problems in the 15th century, before the British imported jenever from the Netherlands in the 16th century. It was not until the early 19th century that gin developed into a respected drink, when production guidelines were established. The base consists of grain and must have an alcohol content of at least 37.5% by volume according to EU standards. The addition of spices (botanicals) is particularly important, especially juniper, as well as various herbs, roots and fruits, depending on the variety.

After a production monopoly for alcohol existed in the Nordic countries, which was lifted for Norway in 2005, the former Puntervold / Agder Brenneri (now Det Norske Brenneri) was able to operate its production and barrel storage facilities in Grimstad in the south of Norway. They mainly produced apple wine and the caraway schnapps that is popular in the Scandinavian countries. They were the first private distillery after 80 years of state monopoly. The 'Extra Noir' takes place in different stages. A base distillate is made from molasses and is a blend of 'pressed rum', using a ratio of 1/3 and 2/3. For the part that makes up 1/3 of the blend, large wood chips from the Tonnelerie Bossuet are added, which are then left to soak in the alcohol for a good 2 hours. This explains the significantly darker color in direct comparison to its three competitors in the series. After the 'soaking time', a coarse filtration takes place so that some fine wood chips remain. This is followed by a maturation period of another six hours. The same thing happens with the blend, which makes up 2/3. However, for this, ex-bourbon white American oak fines from River Drive Cooperage & Millwork are used. Here, the soaking takes place over seven days before cavitation for six hours. Now both rums are married together and another maturing phase takes place for around 60 days in French oak barrels. The family began producing various spirits by hand in the early 1850s. The focus was always on naturalness and the connection to Finnish vegetation. The various berries and plants are hand-picked from untouched nature in the Nordic forests of Finland and processed into the finest, high-quality spirits. A particular annual highlight of the distillery is the vintage Glögg, which is being released again this year. Every year, the strong red wine that serves as the base is refined with various berries. For the 2021 vintage, raspberries and currants were chosen. These were refined by adding winter spices such as cardamom, cinnamon or cloves. Lignell & Piispanen recommends: Drink the Glögg in good company and heated to no more than 60 degrees. The same route also secured the trade in rum to Europe. Pacto Navio Rum This rum matures after an unspecified period of time, first in former bourbon barrels, and then for a further three months in European oak barrels in which the French red wine described above was previously stored. In addition to a golden-brown color, the storage in the red wine barrels gave the rum sweet and fruity notes. Vanilla, toffee, molasses and honey characterize the palate. After distillation from sugar cane juice, the La Mauny Blanc is then aged for a short time, in this case around three months, in oak barrels. This time is just long enough to take on subtle notes of oak. On the nose, however, the rum initially presents itself with sweet, fresh aromas. It is only on the palate that the sugar cane aroma is joined by oak notes in the background.
