But you read that correctly. The key word is: British influences. And it quickly becomes clear that gin is not completely out of the question. The history of Menorca Gin goes back to 1708, when British naval officers occupied the island. Of course, they brought a certain supply of the British national drink with them, but this ran out faster than supplies could arrive. Locals on the Balearic island agreed to support the officers and make their own gin locally. Juniper berries were imported from Great Britain, now all that was missing was a base. Since Menorca was heavily involved in wine production, they tried using a wine distillate instead of the usual grain distillate. By adding some local herbs and spices, they managed to create their own gin. This was ultimately so popular that an entire brand, 'Xoriguer', was developed from it. The rights to the name were secured, so that today Xoriguer Gin is the only gin with a designation of origin alongside 'London Dry Gin'! The distillery is still in the hands of the Xoriguer family, who still produce it according to the original recipe from the 18th century. This is the English abbreviation for introduced/founded in German. However, the label was not founded in that year. Before the explanation comes, it must be said that Hendrick's Gin belongs to William Grant and Son... So now the explanation: Est. 1886 simply stands for the year in which William Grant founded his very first whisky distillery and in this way the foundation stone for Hendrick's Gin was laid. The important history of Hendrick's, however, only began at the end of the 20th century. A master blender from William Grant & The idea for Hendrick's Gin is said to have come to the mind of Janet Sheet Roberts during a visit to the garden of Janet Sheet Roberts, a granddaughter of the founding father, Grant. As is customary in England, tea and cucumber sandwiches are served in the afternoon, but she gave her guest a glass of gin with the sandwich. This gave the young David Steward the idea of creating a gin refined with cucumber and rose. He enlisted the help of Lesley Gracie, John Ross and the Scotch Whisky Research Institute. Actual production did not begin until 1999, and the market launch followed a year later. This initially took place in the United States. Other spirits markets in Spain, Great Britain and Germany followed in 2003. Two different distillation processes are used in the production process. The two are then mixed together in roughly equal parts. Finally, the gin is flavored with essences of Damascus roses and Dutch cucumbers. Creativity and quality are Wilderer's top priorities. So he naturally finds enough incentives in the Cape region, which is one of the world's largest fruit growing areas, to meet his demands. The brandies are triple distilled in a state-of-the-art facility with a capacity of over 700 liters. They are all grown sustainably and harvested by hand. Vineyards are usually found next to the Fynbos region, so it is only logical that the base alcohol of this gin is based on white grapes. In order to achieve a perfect bond between the aromas, the plants, herbs and spices are macerated before distillation. The taste A well-rounded taste in the mouth that fills you with pleasant warmth. Despite its alcohol content of 45% vol., the gin is still rather mild. You can taste deep, complex herbal aromas and a hint of orange zest. The individual botanicals are macerated separately in pure wheat spirit, which is then distilled separately in an advanced form of the column still process. As far as we know, no other producer uses carrot as a botanical, although its addition provides a pleasant earthy note in the aftertaste. ELG GIN No. 4 ELG GIN No. 4 also contains an extract from black carrots as a special ingredient. This is achieved by soaking black carrots in 50% vol. pure wheat alcohol for three days. This produces an extract that not only contains the diverse aromas of the black carrot, but also the anthocyanins that occur naturally in the black carrot, which give it its intense pink-red color. The production of Professor Cornelius Ampleforth's Cask-Aged Gin The basis for the Cask-Aged Gin is Professor Cornelius Ampleforth's Bathtub Gin. Like almost all Ampleforth products, this is produced in small batches of just 30-60 bottles. This corresponds roughly to the quantities in which so-called Bathtub Gin was produced illegally during American Prohibition. The botanicals used by Professor Cornelius Ampleforth for the Bathtub Gin include juniper, coriander, cinnamon and orange zest. After the herbs and spices have been added to the high-quality neutral alcohol, the maceration is constantly monitored and its progress is continuously sensorially tested by Professor Ampleforth. The Dictador company The Dictador company was founded in 1913 as "Destileria Colombia". The Dictador Gin Ortodoxy The Dictador Gin is made according to a recipe by Dario Parra, the former president of the company, who is known as a passionate lover of gin. After extensive trips to the United Kingdom and the associated enjoyment of very high-quality gin, Dario Parra decided to produce a gin after returning to Colombia. He started experiments with many different recipes until he finally decided on the final recipe for the Dictador Gin White. The Dictador Gin White is also known as Dictador Gin Ortodoxy and was for a long time only produced for the personal consumption of Dario Parra and his friends. The production of the Dictador Gin Ortodoxy After the raw alcohol produced for the Dictador Gin has been macerated with various berries, peels, roots and spices, it is carefully distilled again. Now comes the special part that sets the Dictador Gin Ortodoxy apart from many other products. After distillation, the Dictador Gin Ortodoxy matures for some time in old oak barrels that formerly contained the sweet, strong Dictador rum. After storage in the barrel, the gin naturally loses its color, but the flavors of the rum barrel are retained. It is then bottled at 43% vol., which is popular with gin connoisseurs, in a bottle whose design is influenced by Japanese culture. Dictador wants to underline its goal of being not only a spirits company, but also a fashion and lifestyle company. The taste of Dictador Gin Ortodoxy The clear Dictador Gin Ortodoxy has a slight bitterness on the nose from the roots used in the maceration. Fresh notes, sweet and sour nuances from the fruit and warming hints of spices can also be perceived. On the palate, Dictador Gin Ortodoxy presents itself with aromas of juniper, angelica, mint, pepper and citrus fruits.
