Old Tom Gin - The original, slightly sweetened gin variant
Alongside London Dry Gin or Dry Gin, Old Tom Gin is the best-known type of gin. Old Tom gin is a sweetened gin that is considered to be the original version of gin. It was particularly popular in England in the 18th century, but was first mentioned in writing as an ingredient in the Tom Collins cocktail in the book The Flowing Bowl: When and What to Drink, published in 1891. After falling into oblivion for a long time, Old Tom gin was reintroduced by Hayman's a few years ago. This was followed by other producers such as Both's, Secret Treasures and Ransom. Old Tom Gin is an indispensable ingredient in the famous Martinez cocktail, which is considered the forefather of today's Martini Dry. It also tastes fantastic as an ingredient in Old Tom Gin & Tonic, Tom Collins, Casino Cocktail and Tuxedo Cocktail.
