Inspiration from Japan - recipe from 1840

Christian Jensen, the mastermind behind Jensen Gin, first encountered the almost extinct species Old Tom Gin in Japan and was all the more surprised that this forerunner of the successful dry gin with its own character had not been produced in the traditional gin country of England for years and, after returning to the UK, immediately contacted a local distiller to revive it.

The rebirth of Old Tom Gin

After intensive research to find the spices in question, Jensens Dry Gin was created first - which, incidentally, makes an excellent gin & tonic. Jensen's Old Tom Gin, on the other hand, took a little longer and is based on a recipe from 1840 and is produced without the often communicated obligatory dose of sugar in Old Tom Gins. Bottled in a very simple-looking frosted white glass bottle, the label on the square shape is also puristic and expressive without any decorations.

The taste of Jensen's Old Tom Gin

Jensen's Old Tom starts off a little rough on the palate and is best enjoyed in a mixed drink and is less intended to be enjoyed neat. The rich abundance of the botanicals used creates a convincing aromatic, almost earthy aftertaste with a strong dash of juniper berries. The floral note that is usually noticeable in Old Tom Gins is almost completely absent from Jensen's Old Tom.

This gin is very special and will probably polarize when used in classic gin cocktails such as Gin & Tonic or Martini Cocktail, which otherwise call for dry gin. In aromatic drinks, however, in combination with sweet vermouth or similar, Jensen's Old Tom will convince across the board.
