Hernö - high-quality organic gin from Sweden
Sweden has a long culture when it comes to high-quality spirits. Just think of Absolut Vodka as an example. Since 2011, the small Hernö Gin Distillery, which can easily be described as an artisanal spirits manufacturer, has been added to the long list of Swedish spirits manufacturers.

The Hernö Gin Distillery was founded by Jon Hillgreen, who moved to London in 1999, where he worked as a bartender with some friends. Over the course of his career, he tasted over a hundred gins and began to develop a love for this spirit that is so simple and yet so complex. In order to intensify his knowledge, Jon Hillgreen began to look into the scientific and technical side of gin production and visited numerous gin distilleries all over England. He quickly realized that he wanted to open his own small gin distillery at some point and finally put this plan into action.

The Hernö Gin Distillery is located in the small town of Dala near the town of Härnösand in Ångermanland. This makes it the northernmost gin distillery in the world. The distillery building was built in the classic Swedish style from red and white painted wood and is just as eye-catching as the Hernö gin bottle.

The Hernö Gin (ORGANIC)
The Hernö Gin is a round and smooth gin produced in the style of a London Dry Gin. A total of eight different botanicals are used in the production, all of which are organically grown: juniper berries from Hungary, coriander seeds from Bulgaria, cranberries from Sweden, meadowsweet from the United Kingdom, black pepper from India, spice bark from Indonesia, vanilla from Madagascar and lemons that are still peeled by hand.

Due to the careful selection and processing of the botanicals, Hernö Gin has a strong juniper character and floral and fresh notes of citrus fruits, which makes it an ideal gin to enjoy neat. Because Hernö Gin is not cool-filtered after distillation, significantly more aromas are retained than with an industrially produced gin.

Tenu Gin, 0,5L 47%
Tenu Gin 0.5L 47% From the Finnish wilderness “Tenu Gin”, which comes from the depths of Finland, is also known as the “spirit of the forest” because it comes from the northernmost forest area on earth. The taïga is characterized by its sparse vegetation; only conifers and berries grow there in the dense forests. Mosses and numerous types of lichen also have the prospect of thriving. The landscape is also characterized by mountain ranges and swampy areas that are simply breathtaking in winter. Temperatures can easily reach minus 40 degrees at this time of year. The term taïga is probably a loanword from Russian and means something like “impenetrable, often swampy forest”. The word can probably be traced back to the Mongolian version 'Tajga', which means "mountain forest". Blessed by the monks The gin was originally created by a small brotherhood of monks in order to be able to process the herbs collected from the Finnish forest. Even today, the "Tenu Gin" is distilled and bottled with great dedication in the Valamo Monastery Distillery by renowned master distillers with a lot of discipline and skill. Consecrated with secrets Pure spring water of the best quality, which is obtained directly on site, serves as the basis. But that is by no means all that the gin hides inside. There you will find hints of rare botanicals that can be clearly identified as wild herbs, roots, flowers, wild roses, cranberries and juniper. Arctic legonberries give the premium gin its unmistakable taste and characterize it with its highly complex characteristics. Influences from summer green shrubs that grow close to the ground and usually have blueberries on them are also easy to recognize. However, you will have to discover the complete secret of "Tenu Gin" for yourself. Shining in all its glory This gin is ideal for classic cocktails and long drinks such as Negronis, Gimlets or the Gin Martini thanks to its aromatic profile. As a tonic, however, it also reveals its strength at exactly the right point.

Hernö High Coast Terroir Gin 2018, 0,5L 46,8%
Hernö High Coast Terroir Gin 2018 0.5L 46.8% Hernö Hernö Distillery is the first gin distillery in Sweden. The story began with a passion for gin and the resulting dream of crafting your own gin. The distillery is based in Dala, somewhere almost in the middle of nowhere in Sweden and yet in the gin world, where the founder Jon Hillgren bought an old 18th century farm in 2011 and converted it into the Hernö Distillery with the support of his family. Dala has a natural beauty and always inspires with its diverse flora and fauna, which always gives Jon the strength to keep dreaming and turn these dreams into fantastic creations. In 2012, Hernö Gin was introduced in three local Systembolaget stores. People lined up to get a bottle of this incredibly good gin that everyone was talking about. In 2013, Hernö Gin became the most awarded gin at the International Gin Masters 2013 and thus achieved its international breakthrough. In order to meet the new high demand, the company had to expand. By selling shares to gin enthusiasts, a new distillery with a visitor center was built. Taste notes The distillery's award-winning gins are made exclusively from organically grown, natural botanicals. Only around 400 bottles of this edition, Hernö High Coast Terroir Gin, were bottled. In 2000, Sweden's High Coast was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Shaped by the last ice ages, you can find a great variety of flora and fauna there. It was precisely these extraordinary herbs, spices and berries that were intended to be brought to the customer in the Hernö High Coast Terroir Gin. All botanicals used for distillation were hand-picked on the High Coast. Rowan berries, willowherb, spruce shoots and hops are used in this gin. These are intended to give you the feeling of a leisurely walk in the forest and conjure up a piece of the rugged coast in the glass. On the nose you primarily smell juniper, on the palate it is more spicy and herbaceous, you can detect a slight sweetness from spruce shoots. Rowan berries and hops are more in the background, along with a little citrus freshness. In the finish, the juniper taste lingers on the palate with a pleasant sharpness. A gin that speaks of the landscape it comes from.

Harahorn Cask Aged Gin 0,5L 41,7%
Harahorn Cask Aged Gin 0.5L 41.7% Det Norske Brenneri The production facility of the Det Norske distillery is in Grimstad in southern Norway. After the Norwegian production monopoly was lifted in 2015, the distillery was the first private distillery in Norway. The distillery got off to a great start with its craft gin in 2015. For more than a year, the master distillers experimented with different berries and plants to get what they consider to be the perfect recipe for their craft gin. Since fruits, berries and herbs taste so particularly good in hardly any other place in the world due to the special climate in Norway, Harahorn Gin's contain four regional ingredients from land and sea: juniper from Røros, blueberries from Nordmarka on the outskirts of Oslo, rhubarb from Grimstad and seaweed from the city. Harahorn Hunters and miners have sworn they have seen it for many centuries. In North American folklore, this creature is called the Jackalope. In Norway, it is known as the Harahorn. The classic Harahorn Gin uses juniper berries as well as blueberries, rhubarb, bladderwrack, marjoram and angelica from the Norwegian wilderness. This edition of Harahorn Gin has also been aged for a year in Oloroso sherry casks. This creates a premium gin with smoothness and elegance, specially developed for classic drinks.

Nordic Spirits Lab Gin 0,5L 41%
Nordic Spirits Lab Gin 0.5L 41% Nordic Spirits – the special gin Nordic Spirits Lab Gin is bursting with Nordic influences. What also sets it apart is that this gin is a hybrid gin. Here, gin is combined with aquavit. With the idea of reinventing the drinking experience, the original idea was to only refine the gin with the special ingredients of the Scandinavian aquavit, but then ultimately decided to combine both spirits. Nordic taste A very soft, restrained aroma on the nose. It spreads out very gently and mildly, with juniper notes coming through, followed by slightly floral aromas. However, something spicy also comes along in the background. The taste ties in with the nosing, a very mild and soft gin. The floral bouquet is also recognizable here. Some fruitiness from citrus fruits comes through. After a few minutes in the mouth, a pleasant, subtle spiciness from the various spices develops: caraway, dill and coriander primarily. In summary, it can be said that with the NSL Gin, a special Scandinavian gin is conquering the market. Like most gins, the Nordic Spirits Lab Gin is also suitable for gin and tonics. Due to its subtle alcohol taste, it can also be drunk neat.

Hernö Sipping Gin 2019 1.3 ex Islay Cask 0,5L 49,1%
Hernö Sipping Gin 2019 0.5L 49.1% Hernö Distillery When the founder of the Hernö Distillery, Jon Hillgren, moved to London in 1999 and earned his money there as a bartender, his attention to the drink for which the English were so famous grew. He quickly became particularly enthusiastic about balanced and very special gins. Hillgren continued to work with gin outside of everyday bar life, too; he was interested in gin production and took part in workshops. He also took scientific studies and techniques from major manufacturers to heart. During this time, Jon acquired a lot of knowledge and the craft of gin production. When he returned to his home in northern Sweden in 2011, he founded the Hernö Distillery. With the new foundation he also earned himself the title of 'northernmost distillery in the world', as the distillery is located in the small town of Dala in the High Coast region in the far north of Sweden. Sipping Gin The idea behind the Sipping Gin series was to contribute to a stronger visitor industry as a local company. The first editions at the Hernö Open House, as well as the High Coast Whisky Festival and the exclusive first order options for the special editions, the aim was to increase the attractiveness of the gin. For the Sipping Gin No. 1.3. ex Ardbeg Cask, the gin was stored for 21 days in old whisky barrels that were previously used by Ardbeg. Master Distiller Jon Hillgren himself says that this bottling is the 'most powerful' in this series so far. When tasting, the first thing you notice is the characteristic Hernö taste, but then the influences of the barrel storage become apparent: peat, oak and smoke aromas have been transferred into the gin. Its taste is convincing with smoke aromas and a fine scent of caramel and fresh coffee. Vanilla and fresh citrus notes are present in the background and offer an unforgettable experience. It's always worth being quick with the special limited editions from the Hernö distillery, because as is often the case with Hernö, the focus was initially on sales at the High Coast Whisky Festival and at Hernö Gin's Open House in Dala. Only a few bottles are now available for public sale.

Hernö Artisan 10 Gin 0.5L 45.7% Strictly limited edition Only 1920 bottles of Hernö Artisan 10 Gin are said to have been bottled to mark the distillery's 10th anniversary, so if you own one of these coveted bottles, you should look after it carefully! In terms of taste, Hernö has once again come up with something special. They wanted to create a gin with a clear line, so only 8 botanicals were used here: Vanilla, cinnamon bark, meadowsweet, lemon peel, black pepper, coriander seeds, lingonberry (a plant species related to the American cranberry or European lingonberry) and juniper berries. After distillation, the gin matured in Swedish birch barrels. Aromas The first notes that hit your nose are fresh birch wood paired with clear notes of juniper and meadowsweet. On the palate, sweet floral notes develop alongside the clear juniper notes.
