Brandy - Brandy International
Brandy is the common generic term for brandies that do not originate from France or Germany and is the English word for brandy. In Germany, when people talk about brandy, they often mean the well-known brands from Spain and Italy such as Cardenal Mendoza, Antinori, Gran Duque de Alba or Veterano. In France, brandy is known as Cognac or Armagnac. Like brandy, cognac is a wine distillate made from white wine, but it may only bear the name cognac if the brandy comes from a specific region in France defined by law. If it does not come from this area, it is called Armagnac. In our online store for spirits, we offer cognac in the VS, VSOP and XO quality grades, as well as brandy in the Reserva, Gran Reserva, Solera Reserva and X.O. quality grades. Of course, you will also find a variety of different vintage bottlings - so-called Vintage Cognacs or Vintage Brandies. We also stock German brandies such as Asbach.

Ocucaje Huaco Negro Pisco Quebranta 0.7L 38% About Ocucaje Pisco Pisco has a long tradition in Peru, which is closely linked to one man, among others. This is the former President Domingo Elias, who was considered one of the wealthiest and most successful men in all of Peru. Until his death in 1867, Domingo Elias was responsible for driving forward the port expansion in what is now the city of Pisco. It was only the modernized port facilities that enabled increasing export figures and thus the global success of the Pisco spirit. Driven by the positive economic development, many entrepreneurs entered the Pisco industry. Among them were Senor Zunini and Senor Osella, who together founded the company Ocucaje Pisco in 1898. In 1932, Ocucaje Pisco was finally taken over by Senor Rubini Truel, whose descendants still manage the fortunes of Ocucaje Pisco today. During this time, the company Ocucaje Pisco suffered a number of setbacks, the most serious of which was the state expropriation in 1970. Due to the expropriation of the vineyards, which incidentally previously belonged to Domingo Elias, the vines became overgrown and it took many years to restore them to their former level. However, thanks to exemplary work by the owners of Ocucaje Pisco, it was possible to restore the condition before the expropriation and thus also guarantee the quality of the Ocucaje Huaco Negro Pisco Quebranta. The production and taste of the Ocucaje Huaco Negro Pisco Quebranta Although Ocucaje Pisco is the largest producer of Pisco in Peru, some of the methods used are very traditional. For example, two stills from the 1920s are still in operation and ensure a very authentic Pisco taste. The Ocucaje Huaco Negro Pisco Quebranta is distilled from the Quebranta grape variety, which is known for its aging but elegant taste. The Ocucaje Huaco Negro Pisco Quebranta is similar, with a rather mild bouquet but then presenting itself with pure elegance on the palate. The aftertaste of the Ocucaje Huaco Negro Pisco Quebranta is very complex and brilliant. The Ocucaje Huaco Negro Pisco Quebranta is bottled in a beautifully shaped bottle that is based on a traditional clay figure from the Paracas culture. The Ocucaje Huaco Negro Pisco Quebranta is a visual and taste highlight at every home bar!

St. Remy Authentic Brandy VSOP 1.0 Ltr 40% Base wine of the highest quality The St. Rémy distillery can look back on a history of over 120 years. It was founded in 1886 in the small town of Machecoul, near Nantes. The area around Machecoul is one of the best growing areas for the 'Gros Plant' grape variety. Gros Plant is better known under the name Folle Blanche. This is a white grape variety with a very high acid content, which was originally used for cognac production. After the phylloxera plague, however, the more resistant 'Ugni Blanc' grape variety was used in the Cognac region. The lower-yielding and more disease-prone Folle Blance grape was rarely cultivated despite its higher quality. From a small business to the most popular French brandy in the world Due to the high quality of the brandy, the French brandy from St. Rémy quickly made a name for itself in the world of spirits. The first exports to the rest of Europe followed in the 1920s and from the 1970s onwards it was exported worldwide to countries such as the USA, Vietnam, Canada, Finland, Nigeria and Australia. Sales figures were good and so the brandy from the village of Machecoul, which has a population of 6,000, blossomed into the most popular French brandy in the world. The Napoleon quality The Napoleon quality, which is relatively unknown compared to VSOP and XO, stands for cognac or French brandy that has been stored in barrels for at least 6 years. Incidentally, this is exactly the same length of time as XO cognac has to be stored in barrels. During this time, the brandy develops great aromas of orange zest, apricots, vanilla and jasmine flowers. The St. Rémy Napoléon offers the highest quality brandy at an unbeatable price. The low price and high quality make the brandy perfect for high-quality cocktails. Try this brandy as a long drink with ginger ale or with coffee. You will be amazed!

Cles des Ducs Armagnac XO, 0.7 L, 40% A brandy with tradition If you ask about brandy from France, you'll probably only hear "Cognac"! Sometimes people will then add that there is also Armagnac, "a type of small Cognac from a different region". Statements like this quickly make it clear that Armagnac has a prestige problem. Unfortunately, it has only itself to blame for this, as at the height of its popularity in the middle of the 20th century, some manufacturers preferred to offer quantity rather than quality. The formerly excellent reputation of Armagnac therefore took a significant hit in the post-war period, from which it has not really recovered to this day. Even though the quality has long since returned to its previous level, Cognac is always viewed as being of a higher quality. This is unfortunate, as the quality of Armagnac is in no way inferior to that of Cognac. The history of Armagnac begins in 1461, when a document confirms for the first time that a distillery in the Landes department was granted a license to produce brandy. At that time, Moorish knowledge of the art of distilling was combined with Roman experience in winemaking and Gallic skills in barrel building. The first mentions of the production of Cognac date from the 17th century, when Armagnac had already been produced for over 130 years. The knowledge of the skillful distillation of wine was passed down from generation to generation, and Armagnac was thus able to achieve its unusually high quality. The art of Armagnac production The production of Armagnac has few parallels to the production of Cognac, apart from the use of white wine as the starting product. The base wines for Armagnac are made from the acidic and flavorful white grape varieties Colombard, Folle Blanche, Ugni Blanc, Baco 22 A, Saint Émilion and Jurancon. This is followed by a single distillation in a continuous still. The resulting distillate has an alcohol content of 55-56% vol. and is transferred to holm oak barrels for storage. The wood of this type of oak is rich in natural colorants and tannins, which means that young Armagnac quickly acquires an attractive color and a pleasant sweet-tart taste. The production of the cognac is based on a double distillation in closed stills and subsequent storage at over 70% vol. in barrels made of Limousine oak, which are significantly poorer in colorants and tannins. Cles des Ducs Armagnac XO Unlike in the Cognac region, there are only a few large manufacturers in the Armagnac region. The majority of the products are offered by small producers, which means there is an enormously positive variety of brands and products. One of the best known manufacturers is Clés des Ducs from the heart of Bas-Armagnac. The XO is one of the flagships of this traditional company, for which only the oldest and best spirits are used. This Armagnac with its great amber color reveals a firework of aromas on the nose. Dried fruit, leather, tobacco, lemon and orange zest can be detected, among other things. The experience on the palate is in no way inferior to the smell. When drinking, wonderful notes of violet, vanilla and hazelnut emerge. The long aftertaste is warming and satisfying. A brilliant Armagnac that is best enjoyed with a good cigar or pipe!

Laird`s Applejack 0.7L 40% The history of Laird`s Applejack Laird`s Applejack can look back on a long and eventful history. It is manufactured by Laird & Company, which can be traced back to 1698. At that time, the Scotsman Alexander Laird moved to America with his sons Thomas and William and began producing Laird's Applejack for home use and for good friends. The fact that Alexander Lairds produced Applejack was simply due to the fact that apples were a cheap and readily available product at the time and one of his sons already had experience in distilling from Scotland. The quality of Laird's Applejack quickly spread and so they began to produce Applejack on a larger scale. The company grew quickly and by 1760 Lairds was already supplying the American armed forces with its Applejack. There are even documents that prove that George Washington asked the Laird family for the recipe for applejack, which was sent to him. It can therefore be assumed that George Washington produced apple brandy or applejack in his own distillery in addition to rye whiskey. Laird's business continued to run successfully until a fire destroyed the distillery in 1849. However, under the leadership of the then manager Robert Laird, it was rebuilt within just two years and production of applejack was resumed. Another setback occurred when the distillery had to close during Prohibition. However, the production of non-alcoholic apple products, such as apple sauce, helped the company overcome this difficult time. Laird & Company is now run by the eighth generation of the Laird family, making it the oldest family-run distillery in the USA! The production of Laird's Applejack The basis for Laird's Applejack is, of course, apples. These are harvested in autumn, when the fruit is particularly sweet and juicy. Immediately after harvest, the apples are pressed and the resulting naturally cloudy apple juice is spontaneously fermented. After fermentation, the apple mash is distilled and filled into charred oak barrels to mature. After several years of maturation, the resulting apple brandy is blended with neutral spirit to make applejack and bottled at 40% vol. The taste of Laird's Applejack Laird's Applejack has the expected beautiful aromas of fresh apples on the nose. You can also clearly tell on the palate that 3 kilos of fresh apples were used for one bottle of Laird's Applejack. The aftertaste of Laird's Applejack is long, but somewhat weaker than that of its colleague Laird's Bonded Apple Brandy.

Laird`s Rare Apple Brandy 12 Years The history of Laird`s Rare Apple Brandy 12 Years Laird`s Rare Apple Brandy 12 Years is produced by Laird & Company. The origins of Laird & Company go back to 1698, when the Scotsman Alexander Laird moved to America and produced apple brandy for home use together with his sons William and Thomas. As friends of the Lairds naturally also tried their apple brandy, word got around about its quality and production capacity was quickly reached. The Lairds therefore decided to produce their apple brandy on a larger scale from then on and enjoyed great success with their products. Even George Washington wrote a letter to the Laird family to ask for the recipe for their apple brandy. George Washington probably produced apple brandy as well as rye whiskey in his own distillery.Above all, the status as official supplier to the American troops brought Laird's Apple Brandy great renown and equally large sales volumes in the decades that followed. The Laird family also successfully mastered a fire in 1849, in which the distillery burned down to the ground, and the legally mandated production stop during Prohibition. One secret of the good management of Laird & Company is certainly that the company has always been family-owned. The eighth generation of Lairds now runs the distillery and produces the famous apple brandy. Laird & Company is the oldest family-run distillery in the USA. The production of Laird's Rare Apple Brandy 12 years As in the early days of the distillery, only fully ripe and healthy apples are used to produce Laird's Rare Apple Brandy 12 years. These are freshly pressed after the harvest in autumn and the resulting juice is spontaneously fermented in large oak tanks. Since spontaneous fermentation always depends heavily on natural conditions, the duration of fermentation varies between seven and thirty days. After the apple juice has finally fermented completely, it is distilled and filled into heavily charred oak barrels for storage. There Laird's Rare Apple Brandy matures for at least 12 years and is then bottled at a strong 44% ABV. To produce a bottle of Laird`s Rare Apple Brandy 12 years, 16 pounds of fresh apples are needed! The taste of Laird`s Rare Apple Brandy 12 years Despite its age, Laird`s Rare Apple Brandy 12 years has aromas of surprisingly fresh apples on the nose, which together with notes of oak and vanilla create a beautiful overall picture. On the palate, the notes of apple and oak barrel in Laird`s Rare Apple Brandy 12 years also blend very well. The 44% vol. gives Laird`s Rare Apple Brandy 12 years a good structure. The aftertaste of Laird`s Rare Apple Brandy 12 years is reminiscent of an old cognac and should be enjoyed as such.
