Genever - Holland Gin Full of Aromatics
Genever is considered the forefather of the popular dry gin. Originating from the Netherlands, genever is a juniper-flavored spirit. There are different types of genever, such as Oude Genever, Jonge Genever, and Corenwijn, which vary in their production and aging processes. Although there are many great cocktails with genever, major brands like Bols, Bokma, De Kuyper, and Zuidam are often enjoyed neat and slightly chilled in their homeland.

Zuidam Oude Genever 5 years, 0.5L 38% Classic spirits and liqueurs from the Netherlands The Dutch distillery Zuidam is one of the few spirits producers in the Netherlands that still produces its products in a very traditional and artisanal way. All products used by Zuidam are 100% natural and carefully selected. Another special feature of the distillery is that it is still family-run. All recipes for the products produced there are developed in collaboration by Fred van Zuidam and his son Patrick. They see their products as a kind of painting, which is painted with aromas instead of colors. Zuidam places just as much emphasis on the packaging as on the quality of the products. For this reason, all products will be bottled in a specially designed and attractive designer bottle. The history of Zuidam Destillers The Zuidam distillery was founded in 1975 by Fred van Zuidam. Zuidam's idea was to set up a small distillery that specialises in very exclusive products. He therefore built his distillery on just 300m² with a small copper pot still and a small production line. Zuidam's beginnings were rather slow and it took a good 10 years before its reputation as one of the best distilleries in the country was established. However, the final breakthrough only came after his wife Helene von Zuidam took over the design of the products. The distillery, which has now expanded to 3600m² and 4 pot stills, is now run by the two brothers Patrick and Gilbert, with their parents always keeping a watchful eye on the two. While Patrick looks after the distillery, Gilbert is responsible for sales and marketing. The taste of Zuidam Oude Genever 5 years For this special bottling, the best barrels in the distillery were selected after a storage period of at least 60 months. Before being stored in barrels, the genever was distilled three times in a pot still from the best wheat and barley malt, as well as corn. Various botanicals, such as juniper, liquorice root and aniseed, were then added to the distillate and macerated for some time. The end result of this complex production method is a very special genever, with a rich vanilla and toffee aroma and a silky mouthfeel. One of the best genevers on the market!

Zuidam Jonge Graan Jenever 1.0L 35% Traditional spirits and liqueurs from the Netherlands The Zuidam distillery from the small Dutch community of Baarle-Nassau is known far beyond the country's borders for its traditionally produced spirits and liqueurs. All ingredients used in production are 100% natural and processed by hand. Although mainly genever and liqueurs are produced, rum and whiskey also leave the distillery. The recipes for all products are designed together by the founder Fred van Zuidam and his son Patrick. The two men work according to the principle of an artist and see the individual aromas as colors that together must create a harmonious picture. Fred van Zuidam's wife is responsible for the unusual design of the bottles, which is intended to express the character of each product. The history of the Zuidam distillery The young Fred van Zuidam once had the vision of founding a small distillery from which only traditionally produced and very exclusive spirits would leave. In 1975 his dream finally became reality and he set up his own small distillery. At that time the entire company premises only covered 300 m² and the first genevers were distilled in a small pot still. This was not to change in the years that followed, when success initially failed to materialize. It was only after a good 10 years that Zuidam's products were finally established on the market and ever since Helene van Zuidam took over the design of the bottles, sales figures have risen steadily. The company premises have now grown to over 3500 m² and production takes place in four copper pot stills. The distillates then mature in a large storage cellar in over 1000 oak barrels. The brothers Gilbert and Patrick van Zuidam are now responsible for the four production lines, but are supported by their parents. The Jonge Graan Jenever from Zuidam Zuidam Jonge Graan Jenever is based on a special recipe from Patrick van Zuidam. The mash consists of equal parts corn, rye and barley malt. After fermentation, a triple distillation follows and the very pure distillate is then distilled again with various botanicals, such as juniper and liquorice root. At the end of this very complex process, you get a very characteristic young genever with a mild taste and a gentle mouthfeel. On the nose and palate, Zuidam Jonge Graan Jenever has a delicate aroma of juniper and vanilla. In the fine aftertaste, there are distinctive aromas of bread and liquorice. A highly recommended genever!

Zuidam 5 Year Old Korenwijn 1L 38%Zuidam Korenwijn 5 Year Old – Tradition, Craftsmanship, and Pleasure from the Netherlands Zuidam Korenwijn 5 Year Old, like few other spirits, represents Dutch distilling in its purest form. The story behind this exceptional distillate begins in 1975, when Dutchman Fred van Zuidam made the bold decision to found a small distillery. His clear philosophy: to create uncompromising quality from the finest raw materials. A commitment that continues to define every bottle of Zuidam to this day. What began on just 300 m² with a single copper pot still and a small bottling line has, through passion, precision, and hard work, developed into one of the most renowned distilleries in the Netherlands. Helene van Zuidam played a crucial role in the company's success, her distinctive designs and custom-developed bottle shape giving the Zuidam brand a unique appearance – a true standout in the world of spirits. With increasing demand, the distillery also grew: in 1989, the production area was expanded, and today it covers an impressive 3,600 m². The family business is now run by the sons, Patrick and Gilbert van Zuidam, who consistently uphold their parents' high standards of quality. While Patrick is responsible for the distillery's operations, Gilbert handles marketing and communications – always with the goal of creating exceptional spirits. A prime example of this philosophy is the Zuidam Korenwijn Single Barrel 5 Year Old. Zuidam Oude Genever 1 Year 1.0L 38% In the 17th century, the physicist Franciscus Sylvius laid the foundation for a worldwide success story with the creation of the first genever. However, the genever of that time was hardly comparable to today's, and even less so to modern gin. Due to a lack of knowledge and know-how, the raw distillates were harsh, burnt, and rough. Maceration with juniper, in addition to its purported healing properties, also served to improve and round out the flavor of the genever. Old Tom Gin was the next step in its development, but still required added sweetness to appeal to consumers at the time. Only with the invention of the innovative column still process could pure and smooth raw spirits be produced, paving the way for today's dry gin. At Zuidam, we still distill traditional genever, but now with 50 years of experience. This is how Zuidam Oude Genever 1 Year is created, which, after a constant pursuit of perfection, finally finds its way to consumers. Zuidam Oude Genever 1 Year is made from equal parts rye, barley, and corn. After the grains are traditionally milled in windmills, the mash is fermented at a cool 20°C, during which the first alcohol is produced from the sugars. After five days, the resulting beer is distilled three times to obtain a clear yet highly aromatic raw spirit. Following this process in handcrafted copper pot stills, a specially defined blend of spices and herbs is added and redistilled to achieve its unique flavor. The Oude Genever then matures in American white oak barrels, developing its final character. On the nose, it displays clear notes of juniper, combined with vanilla and subtle oak. On the palate, these aromas complement each other with wonderful toffee and the fudge known in England, creating a full, slightly fruity experience that elevates the old genever to modern standards without denying its origins.

Hooghoudt Oude Graanjenever 0.7L 38% Hooghoudt's Oude Graanjenever is full of character. Based on a pre-war recipe and craftsmanship, this classic uses rich malt wine that is aged for 17 years in Andalusian oak sherry casks. The result is a genever of depth and fullness. The idea that old genever is aged longer in barrels than young genever is a common misconception. The difference arose during World War II, when less malt wine was distilled due to a shortage of grain. This gave rise to a new, less malty recipe that was called "young". The older variant therefore automatically became the "old" genever. Vanilla, with its refined and sensual aroma, gives the Hooghoudt Oude Graanjenever 0.7L 38% an irresistible touch of luxury. The juniper berry, picked by hand, contributes to the characteristic taste: fresh, bitter and slightly spicy. Lemons give the Hooghoudt Oude Graanjenever freshness and flavor, with their bright golden color and characteristic sour taste.
