Zuidam Korenwijn 5 Year Old, like few other spirits, represents Dutch distilling in its purest form. The story behind this exceptional distillate begins in 1975, when Dutchman Fred van Zuidam made the bold decision to found a small distillery. His clear philosophy: to create uncompromising quality from the finest raw materials. A commitment that continues to define every bottle of Zuidam to this day.

What began on just 300 m² with a single copper pot still and a small bottling line has, through passion, precision, and hard work, developed into one of the most renowned distilleries in the Netherlands. Helene van Zuidam played a crucial role in the company's success, her distinctive designs and custom-developed bottle shape giving the Zuidam brand a unique appearance – a true standout in the world of spirits. With increasing demand, the distillery also grew: in 1989, the production area was expanded, and today it covers an impressive 3,600 m². The family business is now run by the sons, Patrick and Gilbert van Zuidam, who consistently uphold their parents' high standards of quality. While Patrick is responsible for the distillery's operations, Gilbert handles marketing and communications – always with the goal of creating exceptional spirits. A prime example of this philosophy is the Zuidam Korenwijn Single Barrel 5 Year Old. Following this process in handcrafted copper pot stills, a specially defined blend of spices and herbs is added and redistilled to achieve its unique flavor. The Oude Genever then matures in American white oak barrels, developing its final character. On the nose, it displays clear notes of juniper, combined with vanilla and subtle oak. Hooghoudt - A family business since 1888 The history of the Hooghoudt family business goes back to 1888. At that time, the married couple Grietje and Jan Hooghoudt opened a small liqueur and spirits factory in what is now the center of Groningen. After this has been processed into the famous Moutwijn (toll wine), it is double distilled with the addition of juniper and other ingredients such as wormwood, fruit peel and orange peel.
