It has been operated with the same steam engine since 1906. The distillery has always been a family business; since 1905 it has been owned by the Dormoy family, who converted the distillery into an agricultural rum distillery, but it is still one of the most traditional on the entire island. The new La Favorite is a homage to grandmother Lucienne Dormoy, known as Lulu, who ran the distillery with her husband André for more than 50 years. A special edition is now being dedicated to her on the occasion of her 100th birthday. The result is a full-bodied cuvée made from five vintages and includes a 2000, a 2001, a 2002, a 2009 and a 2010. Tasting The La Favorite character is immediately apparent on the nose. Exotic, candied fruits, especially banana, are in the foreground, accompanied by a subtle cigar note. On the palate, an astonishingly soft rum, despite an impressive 45% ABV. Here, it is mainly oak, mocha and tobacco notes that are in the foreground, but the already familiar fruit aromas are also present.

Distilled in 2011, this exceptionally old rum was aged for 11 years, initially for 8 years in bourbon barrels and then for 3 years in white Grand Cru Burgundy barrels. This Agricole Rhum uses sugar cane juice that was distilled in traditional Creole columns in 2015. It was then aged for two years in American oak barrels that were previously used to mature whiskey before being bottled for a further three years in new, burnt oak barrels at cask strength.
