The aim is to commemorate an old trade pact that existed between Spain and France in 1815 as part of the Congress of Vienna. This secured the maritime trade route between Europe and Cuba. This route was of great importance for Havana Rum, as it secured the import of French red wine barrels, which were needed in Havana to refine the rum. The same route also secured the trade in rum to Europe. Pacto Navio Rum This rum matures after an unspecified period of time, first in former bourbon barrels, and then for a further three months in European oak barrels in which the French red wine described above was previously stored.
