The distillate matures for at least 4 years in oak barrels before being bottled at 41% vol. This Chamarel VSOP is an outstanding, harmonious rum with a golden color. The nose is characterized by dominant notes of dried and exotic fruits, lightly toasted oak and ripe sugar cane. Aromas of vanilla, caramel and light spicy and fruity notes complete the bouquet. On the palate it has a medium to full body, is complex, dry and reveals flavors of honey, cedar wood, a hint of smoke, sweet spice and a hint of Armagnac. The finish is dry, spicy and long-lasting. Chamarel XO Rum 0.7L 43% Chamarel XO is the first "Extra Old" rum produced by the Chamarel Distillery in Mauritius. This unique blend consists of 60% column pot still and 40% double distilled rum, made from the finest sugar cane juice from our own plantations. During the 6-year maturation period, the distillate develops its impressive depth and complexity in various French oak barrels, including 30% new barrels, 60% second-fill barrels and 10% storage barrels. On the nose, Chamarel XO unfolds harmonious aromas of spices, fruits and vanilla, accompanied by subtle woody nuances. The taste on the palate is intense and spicy, with hints of vanilla, figs, plums and subtle toffee notes.
