Gin is originally associated with England. A lot has happened in recent years, however, and high-quality gins are now available from numerous countries. For example, think of the G-Vine from France or the Monkey 47 from Germany. A lot has happened in Sweden in this regard, too, and one small distillery in particular is causing a stir in the world of gin lovers.

We're talking about the Hernö distillery, which was founded in 2011 by Jon Hillgreen. Jon Hillgreen lived in London in the late 1990s and worked there as a bartender with some friends. During his time behind the bar, he tasted over 100 gins from various manufacturers. The incredible variety in the world of gin fascinated Hillgreen and he decided to delve deeper into the subject in order to better understand the technological steps involved in gin production. For this reason, he travelled across England and visited numerous distilleries to talk to the master distillers there. He quickly realised that he wanted to produce gin himself - preferably in his home country of Sweden.

He therefore built a small spirits factory out of red and white painted wood in the classic Swedish style. The small Hernö Gin Distillery is the northernmost gin distillery in the world and is located in the village of Dala near the town of Härnösand in Ångermanland.

The Hernö Navy Strength Gin
Like the "normal" Hernö Gin (organic), the Navy Strength variant is produced in the style of a London Dry Gin. The basis is high-quality grain alcohol, which is flavoured with eight different botanicals. All botanicals used are organically grown. The peels of hand-peeled lemons are used, as well as juniper berries from Hungary, cranberries from Sweden, coriander seeds from Sweden, black pepper from India, vanilla from Madagascar, spice bark from Indonesia and meadowsweet from the United Kingdom.

In contrast to the standard bottling, the Hernö Navy Strength Gin is bottled at a strong 57% vol. This makes it not only suitable for those who want something a little stronger, but also more aromatic. Because the gin contains less water, it contains more aromatic substances such as the distinctive notes of juniper and lemon peel!

The Hernö Navy Strength Gin has won several awards and is considered by connoisseurs to be one of the discoveries of the last year!
