Clement Rhum Vieux VSOP, 0,7 L, 40%
Clement Rhum Vieux VSOP, 0,7 L, 40%
Clement Rhum Vieux VSOP, 0.7 L, 40% History and production of Clément Rhum Vieux VSOP: Since its invention, rum has been distilled mainly from molasses, a by-product of sugar production, and is therefore inextricably linked to sugar cane cultivation. Distilleries that produced strong, heavy rums were therefore always located in the immediate vicinity of the large plantations. With the advent of sugar beet in Europe, demand for sugar from the colonies decreased and many distillers found themselves deprived of their livelihood. In the French overseas departments in particular, people therefore began to distill their rum from freshly pressed sugar cane juice. From then on it was called Rhum Agricole and was characterized by its intense, fruity-sweet aroma. The French Caribbean island of Martinique is known throughout the world for its highly aromatic Rhum Agricole. The rhums from the overseas department are incredibly powerful and have clear herbal notes, with intense fruitiness and the taste of fresh sugar cane juice. The father of Rhum Agricole is considered to be the doctor and politician Homère Clément, after whom the numerous Clément Rhums from the Simon Distillery in Martinique are named. To make the Clément Rhum Vieux VSOP, the fresh sugar cane stalks are first pressed and the aromatic sugar cane juice fermented. The vesou obtained in this way is then distilled in single column systems to an alcohol content of between 65 and 75% vol. A subsequent maturation in the best virgin oak and ex-bourbon barrels for at least four years ensures an expressive and extremely complex taste profile. Taste of the Clément Rhum Vieux VSOP: The Clément Rhum Vieux VSOP has a beautiful dark color that is reminiscent of precious mahogany wood. The aroma has notes of vanilla, pineapple, pears and fresh sugar cane juice. Light spicy notes are supported by spicy oak and ensure a cognac-like play of aromas. The taste of the Clément Rhum Vieux VSOP is powerful and intense. Lush fruit notes, honey, caramel and toffee, but also dark chocolate and tobacco are integrated into the full-bodied oak spice. Here, too, the similarity to fine cognac cannot be denied. In the finish, the intense wood notes predominate, a slight coffee bitterness is noticeable and provides additional complexity. Overall, the Clément Rhum Vieux VSOP is an impressive distillate that complements the typical fruity notes of a Rhum Agricole with complex barrel aromas and can therefore be enjoyed neat or in cocktails and mixed drinks.

La Favorite Rhum Agricole Blanc La Digue Recolte 2019 0.7L 52% The history of the La Favorite distillery The La Favorite distillery is one of the last remaining family distilleries on the island of Martinique. It all started with the cultivation of sugar cane until Henri Dormoy bought the terroir. He wanted to modernize everything and opened a distillery. Then as now, it is equipped with an old steam engine that is still in use. The Agricole Blanc La Dique 2019 is a white rum agricole made from fresh sugar cane juice.
