History and production of Bootlegger 21 Gin:

On January 16, 1920, the 18th Amendment came into force in the USA, sealing nationwide prohibition. The "Noble Experiment" was decided upon due to massive pressure from the temperance movement and was intended to prevent diseases such as liver cirrhosis and alcohol dependency by banning general alcohol consumption. Although prohibition was able to reduce some of the health consequences of extensive alcohol consumption, the negative effects outweighed the positive ones overall. Organized crime in particular flourished. The population's thirst for alcohol was profitably quenched through smuggling and bootlegging. As a result, on February 20, 1933, Prohibition was repealed with the signing of the 21st Amendment, ending the experiment of nationwide alcohol prohibition.

Bootlegger 21 Gin is produced and bottled by the American Prohibition Distillery. The name goes back to the numerous bootleggers during the Prohibition era and to the 21st Amendment, which repealed the alcohol ban.

Inspired by the classic London Dry Gin, Bootlegger 21 Gin has a characteristic juniper aroma, which is complemented by other botanicals such as coriander seeds, lemon verbena, orris root and bitter orange peel. The botanicals are macerated for 24 hours in a neutral, 100 percent corn distillate and then finely distilled. Bottled with a strong 47% alcohol by volume and a stylishly designed label reminiscent of an American dollar bill, the Bootlegger 21 Gin is a real asset to any home bar.

The Bootlegger 21 Gin is exceptionally pure and soft in aroma. Elegant notes of ripe juniper berries, typical of classic gin, are complemented by fresh citrus fruitiness and floral-herbal aromas. The botanicals used come into their own and ensure a complex and harmonious combination of sweet fruitiness and tart scents of herbs and spices.

The taste of the Bootlegger 21 Gin is full-bodied and strong. Notes of juniper berries and citrus fruits are once again dominant. These are supported and enhanced by earthy and floral notes.

The unique combination of the botanicals used ensures an extraordinary taste experience and outstanding mixability. The strong alcohol strength of 47% vol., as is typical for London Dry Gin, allows all aromas and flavor nuances to shine without being suppressed in the presence of strong counterparts in cocktails and mixed drinks. To create An Dúlamán we capture the "Draíocht na Farraige" (the magic of the sea) by using five locally harvested seaweed varieties and six other botanicals. This unique combination makes An Dúlamán as special as the Donegal coast itself. To ensure An Dúlamán retains its characteristic complexity and smoothness, we have learned that Méabh (our still) prefers a low alcohol content in the pot and a narrow temperature range to treat the delicate seaweed.
