The history of Jameson Whiskey

Jameson Irish Whiskey is the world's best-selling Irish whiskey and is produced by the Jameson Distillery in Midleton. Even though Jameson Irish Whiskey in its current form has surprisingly only been around since 1968, the origins of the Jameson distillery go back to 1780. The Jameson distillery was founded by the immigrant Scotsman John Jameson. His son of the same name took over the distillery and managed to sell an enormous output for the time and finally founded a joint stock company in 1902. Jameson had to go through many crises over the course of the last century and sales dwindled massively due to American Prohibition and the increased import duties in the UK due to Irish independence. The other producers in the Republic of Ireland were no better off and so in 1966 a decision was made to cooperate. Jameson, Power and the Cork Distilleries then operated under the name Irish Distillers Group (IDG). Jameson Irish Whiskey has been produced by IDG in Midleton since 1968.

The production of Jameson Irish Whiskey

The mash for Jameson Irish Whiskey is made from both malted and unmalted barley. The malted barley is dried in closed kilns so that no smoke gets to the malt. As is usual for Irish whiskey, Jameson Irish Whiskey is triple distilled to guarantee a special purity. The subsequent storage takes place in former sherry, port wine and bourbon oak barrels. The house's master blenders then mix the individual barrels to create the typical taste of Jameson Irish Whiskey.

The taste of Jameson Irish Whiskey

Jameson Irish Whiskey is, as is typical for an Irish whiskey, relatively light on the nose and palate. Jameson Irish Whiskey is soft on the palate, with sweet sherry notes, delicate spice aromas, notes of citrus fruits and a hint of vanilla. The aftertaste of Jameson Irish Whiskey is dry and has a light fruity note.

The Dublin Liberties Copper Alley 10 Jahre Single Malt Irish Whiskey, 0,7L 46%
The Dublin Liberties Copper Alley 10 Years Single Malt Irish Whiskey, 0.7L 46% The history of The Dublin Liberties Copper Alley: The Liberties is a historic district in the Irish capital Dublin. In the 17th and 18th centuries, the district was dominated by weaving mills and large textile manufacturers. In order to protect the English economy, however, Irish silk from the Liberties was subject to horrendous punitive tariffs. In addition, the Anglo-French War under Napoleon meant that the raw materials for silk production could no longer reach Ireland. The Liberties then developed into a social hotspot. Copper Alley in particular was notorious at the time. Numerous pubs and distilleries ensured that no one's throat remained dry. The Liberties are now one of Dublin's up-and-coming, dynamic districts. It is therefore not surprising that The Dublin Liberties Copper Alley was given this name in reference to the district's eventful past. The wooden devil in the Liberties: In the 18th century, a devil carved from wood guarded the entrance to the Liberties. High above the rooftops, the wooden devil looked out over the entire district. But one day the sculpture disappeared, as if swallowed by the earth. It later turned out that resourceful coopers had simply turned the devil into whisky barrels. According to legend, the dark power of the devil is said to have been transferred to the whiskey and a black, highly aromatic liquid was created. In keeping with this legend, The Dublin Liberties Copper Alley is bottled in a deep, dark, black bottle and now delights with its devilishly good contents. Production of The Dublin Liberties Copper Alley: The Dublin Liberties Copper Alley matured for 10 years in former bourbon barrels made of American white oak. It was then intensively finished for six months in Spanish Oloroso sherry barrels, which ensured full-bodied notes of dried fruit. Bottled at an impressive 46% alcohol by volume, chill filtration, which would affect the taste, was deliberately omitted. The Dublin Liberties Copper Alley is strictly limited, as only 31 barrels were filled in total. Tasting of The Dublin Liberties Copper Alley: The Dublin Liberties Copper Alley has taken on a golden, deep dark color due to its long maturation. In addition to spicy oak, the nose reveals sweet malt and fruity sherry notes. Dried plums, apricots and raisins are accompanied by dark chocolate, toasted bread and a hint of leather. On the tongue, there is also a full-bodied sherry cargo. This is accompanied by vanilla, caramel and Christmas spices such as cinnamon, cloves and allspice. The finish is long, warming and characterized by a lively spiciness that lingers on the tongue and palate for a long time.

Jameson Irish Whiskey Caskmates IPA Edition 1,0L 40%
Jameson Irish Whiskey Caskmates IPA Edition 1.0L 40% Jameson Whisky Jameson stands for Irish whiskey and an Irish company that is characterized by great tradition. The beginnings of the distillery are not that far away. The Jameson company has only existed in its current form since 1968. Before that, the history goes back a long way, to the year 1780. This is the official founding date. A Scotsman named John Jameson is named as the 'founding father'. He married the Stein's daughter and together they emigrated to Ireland in 1770. Their son took over the Bow Street distillery, while his brother William acquired the Marrowbone distillery. Both distilleries merged with the last remaining distilleries, Power and Cork Distilleries, to form IDG in 1966 and production was discontinued. The Irish Distillers Group opened in Midleton, Cork in 1975. It has been part of the Pernod Ricard Group since 1988. Jameson Caskmates IPA Edition Irish Whisky This new Jameson whisky primarily retains the soft characteristics that one is used to from a whisky of this brand. It has only been expanded to include a few aromas in the taste. These include coffee beans, cocoa, toffee and hops! The aromas on the nose and palate are really special. On the nose, first floral hops, some grapefruit and/or citrus notes rounded off by woody, nutty aromas. The full aromas then reveal themselves on the palate. The hops and citrus notes, which give the whisky a bit of freshness, can be clearly tasted. These are accompanied by spicy herbal tones. In the finish, the very present hops and fruit notes give way to a fine barley taste and make the aftertaste soft and persistent. This IPA whisky is best enjoyed neat, on the rocks or with a beer. For the really crazy, there are also 'beer cocktails' in which the IPA Caskmates works very well. One of these comes from Paul Thompson from the Ona Mor Bar in Cologne. His drink "Fassbruder" consists of the Jameson Caskmates, sugar syrup, lemon juice and beer. In summary, if you are a big fan of new, interesting beers in addition to whisky, then the Jameson Caskmates IPA Edition Irish Whisky is the right choice!

Jameson Triple Triple Irish Whiskey 1,0L 40%
Jameson Triple Triple Irish Whiskey 1.0L 40% Jameson – branded whiskey since 1780 This year John Jameson developed a special method of producing whiskey. It was supposed to be particularly soft and mild. Over 200 years of daring, experience and passion are behind every Jameson bottle that leaves the distillery today. Triple Distilled As with every Jameson whiskey, the basis of this Triple Triple Whiskey is a blend of pot still malted and unmalted barley and grain whiskey, both of which are triple distilled and then matured for at least 4 years each. For the Triple Triple, the distillery adds another triple component on top. In this edition, the blend is not just matured in one type of barrel. Here, three are used again: sherry and bourbon as well as Malaga barrels. All contribute to a great overall picture with their own, unique aromas. However, the distillery does not give any precise information about the maturation time in the various barrels. All good things come in threes The overall impression of the Jameson Triple Triple Whiskey is definitely convincing. However, what is rather unusual for Jamson Whiskeys is the significantly fruitier character. The nose is reminiscent of wine, with a very berry accent, refined with citrus peel, cinnamon and cloves. On the palate, a sweet body, berries, raisins and a touch of spice. Here, too, the association with wine. The finish is also fruity and spicy and has a pleasant length.

Knappogue Castle 12 Jahre Bourbon Cask Matured Whiskey 0,7L 43%
Knappogue Castle 12 Years Bourbon Cask Matured Whiskey 0.7L 43% Knappogue Castle The history of the distillery is tied to the Andrews couple. They were looking for a beautiful property and in 1966 they came across a dilapidated castle ruin. The couple immediately fell in love with the property and with wife Andrews as the architect in the family, the ruins were quickly rebuilt. Mark Andrews, on the other hand, preferred to devote himself to his passion, collecting and Irish whiskey. After he thought it was perfectly matured, the whiskey was bottled and named 'Knappogue' after their country estate. 12-year-old Bourbon Cask Matured Whisky This 12-year-old whisky is a single malt that has been distilled three times and stored for 12 years in bourbon barrels. The aromas that initially pamper the senses on the nose can best be described as rich, like butter biscuits and with slightly malty notes. On the palate it is very soft in texture, one perceives it as very balanced, fruity notes with undertones of brown sugar and fine vanilla. The finish is moderately long, also with notes of brown sugar and vanilla.

The Sexton Single Malt Irish Whiskey 1,0L 40%
The Sexton Single Malt Irish Whiskey 1.0L 40% The striking black hexagon bottle catches the eye just by its appearance. The design of the bottle is said to be inspired by basalt rock at the Giants Causeway in Northern Ireland. The name 'The Sexton' stands for the sexton of a church, the person who prepares the service, rings the church bells for mass, but is also responsible for looking after the cemetery. In keeping with the latter, a skull with a top hat adorns the fine cork of the black bottle. But is the content as fascinating as the design? This question can be answered quickly with YES, because the Bushmills distillery and above all master blender Alex Thomas have done a great job here. A finish in Oloroso sherry casks gives the whisky a fruity toughness, which is reminiscent of a variety of notes of vanilla, syrup and raisins on the nose right from the start. The aroma profile expands on the palate to include notes of honey and grapes, light wood aromas and a hint of spices and orange aroma. In comparison to the angular design of the bottle, the Sexton Single Malt proves to be absolutely round and pleasantly soft on the palate.

The Naked Malt First Fill Blended Whisky 0,7L 40%
The Naked Malt First Fill Blended Whisky 0.7L 40% Famous Grouse As early as the late 1890s, Sir Perthshire began producing the first whisky together with a wine merchant named Matthew Gloag. In order to establish themselves as a brand on the market and to be remembered by people, the two chose the capercaillie, which is widespread in Scotland, as their logo. At that time, the distillery was only known under the name Grouse, and it was not until the beginning of 1905 that the brand name was supplemented with Famous. The Famous Grouse is a blended Scotch that has undergone a maturation phase in selected first fill sherry casks. In addition to products from the Highland Park distillery, the blend also contains whisky from Glenturret and Macallan, among others. The aromas on the nose are reminiscent of dark cherries and a hint of dark chocolate. On the palate, the aromas of maturation in the sherry cask come through, accompanied by spicy notes of nutmeg and cinnamon. Subtle woody notes and peat are also noticeable in the medium-length finish.

Jameson Black Barrel Triple Distilled Irish Whiskey 0,7L 40%
Jameson Black Barrel Triple Distilled Irish Whiskey 0.7L 40% Black Barrel Triple Distilled Irish Whiskey First of all, the Black Barrel is based on the standard bottling of the well-known Jameson whiskey, i.e. a blend of grain and pot still whiskey. The small but very subtle difference then comes in the storage, which takes place in three different types of barrels: American and European oak barrels, as well as double-burned ex-bourbon barrels. The latter also give the 'Black Barrel' its name. The choice of three different barrels gives the Jameson Blend an even deeper, more complex bouquet. Due to the double-burned bourbon barrel, the Black Barrel has significantly smokier notes than one is used to from classic Jameson, but this aroma is not too intrusive; rather, it underlines the wonderful other aromas. These can initially be described as mild and sweet on the nose, and allow us to recognize marzipan and the scent of apricot. A little burnt wood is also noticeable, accompanied by delicate vanilla notes. The mild, slightly sweet character continues on the palate. Apricot can be recognized here again. Now the subtle charred wood notes also come to the fore. The finish then becomes a little more alcoholic, but pleasant wood notes remain in the mouth.
