Tomatin

The Tomatin distillery is a Scottish distillery. Translated, its name means 'juniper book'. The whisky distillery can be found on the edge of the Grampian Mountains, where it was founded in 1897, during the peak whisky years. Like many other distilleries, however, the Tomatin distillery fell victim to the rapid end of the whisky boom. However, it reopened in 1909 and was greatly expanded between 1956 and 1962. The Tomatin distillery quickly became the largest in Scotland, with more than twelve million litres of alcohol. The tradition of whisky production was maintained despite its size, but a 'saviour in times of need' was needed. This was the Japanese interest group Takara Shuzp Co. and Okura and was the first intervention by a Japanese company in Scotland.

Tomatin 12 YO

Because of storage in traditional oak barrels, former bourbon barrels and former sherry barrels, the Tomatin 12 YO gets a very complex aroma.
On the nose, a great combination of fruit and fine spices. Green apple, cinnamon, nutmeg and a subtle hint of milk chocolate are the defining features. On the palate, the Tomatin 12 YO is definitely clearer. Fruity notes are particularly prominent. Lemon and orange peel join in, followed by strong notes of spices and wood.
The finish is surprisingly refreshing with citrus notes that are rounded off by fine roasted oak aromas.

Tomatin Single Malt Whisky Legacy Miniature 0.05L 43% History The history of the Tomatin distillery actually goes back to the 15th century. At that time, of course, it was still illegal. Cattle traders bought their whisky from the distillery in the Old Laird's House, where the distillery is located today. In 1897, at the height of the whisky boom, an official license to produce whisky was obtained and several investors joined forces to found the Tomatin Spey District Distillery Ltd. When the Tomatin distillery was founded, it was surrounded by an idyllic landscape, isolated and quiet. Since the locals there were only a few shepherds and cattle drivers and the company had to hire its staff from further afield, it had to think about how to win them over. So a project was started to build accommodation for the employees. To this day, most of the employees are housed there. The distillery became the heart of the community and the community became the heart of the distillery. This legacy has been preserved to this day and the Tomatin distillery is one of the few that offers its valued employees a roof over their heads. The Legacy The Legacy edition is intended to represent the legacy of the distillery. The whisky is a modern no-age bottling, so no age is known. What is known, however, is that it is stored in bourbon and virgin oak casks. The use of these types of casks gives The Legacy a pleasant sweetness with aromas of marshmallow, pineapple and lemon. On the palate, a combination of biscuit, apples, pine and lemon sorbet, followed by a clean finish with subtle oak tones and a well-balanced finish of spice and sweetness. The Legacy Whisky has a strength of 43% vol. If you are not keen on a large bottle, you now have the opportunity to buy THE LEGACY as a miniature with a filling quantity of 0.05 L.
