Balvenie – since 1892

The Balvenie distillery is also a Scottish malt distillery. Along with many other distilleries, it is located in the tranquil village of Dufftown in Speyside. One of the most famous neighboring distilleries is the Glenfiddich Distillery.
To this day, the distillery belongs to the independent company William Grant & Son. The name refers to the nearby Balvenie Castle, which plays another important role for the distillery. The founder of William Grant & Son and his sons built the distillery almost with their own hands from building materials that came from a manor house of the eponymous New Balvenie Castle. Then as now, the motto is 'quality over quantity' and it pays off, as it is not without reason that Balvenie's whiskies are among the ten best.

Vintage Cask Series

In this series, the Balvenie distillery presents four real rarities from their range. The series includes bottlings from 1970, 1971, 1972 and 1973, all of which have matured for at least 30 years. Each bottling is very limited, so there are only 1,025 bottles in the entire series.

1970s bottling

For this single malt vintage cask bottling, cask no. 12524 was specially selected from the limited stock of old reserve whiskies by master blender David Stewart himself. The nose is first pampered with great notes of honey and peat, and a little cinnamon can also be detected. At the latest on the palate you notice what a great, really high-quality whisky you actually have in your glass. On the tongue a soft, almost creamy whisky with great fruity nuances. The candied orange is particularly noticeable. Notes of chocolate and marzipan are more in the background.

The Balvenie Single Barrel Single Malt Whisky 12 Yo First Fill 0,7L 47,8%
The Balvenie Single Barrel Single Malt Whisky 12 Years First Fill 0.7L 47.8% Speyside Whisky - Single Barrel 12YO First Fill The name of the 12-year-old whisky from the Balvenie distillery says a lot. 'First Fill' stands for the type of barrel that was selected for storage. That's exactly: after production, the distillate was filled into ex-bourbon barrels, which are now being filled with single malt for maturation for the first time. This single malt will be stored for 12 years. 'Single Barrel' stands for the type of bottling. Great importance is attached to the fact that these are bottlings that are bottled from a single barrel from a single distillation batch. The exact barrel number is then noted on the bottle label. Taste While the whisky world agrees that no two bottlings taste the same, with Balvenie whiskies it is always astonishing that the maltmasters somehow manage to create single barrel bottlings with consistent character. The Single Barrel 12 YO First Fill is rich in oak and vanilla notes. A light honey sweetness can be detected as well as sweet fruit notes. The finish is accompanied by subtle spicy notes.
