History and production of Old Pulteney 1989 Vintage:

The Pulteney distillery was founded in 1826 in the north-eastern corner of Scotland and enjoys an excellent reputation among whisky lovers. The standard bottlings of the 12-, 17- and 21-year-old Old Pulteney Single Malt Whisky are extremely popular with connoisseurs and regularly receive top marks at tastings. Then, at the World Whisky Awards in March 2016, there was a sensation: the vintage bottling Old Pulteney 1989 Vintage was awarded the "Best Single Malt Whisky of the Year 2016" award, which is tantamount to an accolade in the scene. The limited edition was sold out everywhere within a very short time and is practically no longer available. We at drinkology.de are all the more proud that we can offer you the Old Pulteney 1989 Vintage exclusively in our shop. Stocks are limited, so speed is a must. It's definitely worth getting hold of it, because the Old Pulteney 1989 Vintage is more than impressive.

The Old Pulteney 1989 Vintage was released in September 2015 and caused a stir shortly afterwards. The distillate was stored for a total of 26 years in former bourbon barrels made of American white oak. At first glance, this does not seem to be particularly groundbreaking. What is special, however, is that before filling at the Pulteney distillery, an intensely smoky single malt whisky was also stored in the barrels, which gives the Old Pulteney 1989 Vintage a delicate, pleasantly sweet smokiness. Bottled with 46% alcohol by volume, with no added coloring and not chill-filtered, this single malt whisky develops an incredible complexity and sophistication that is rarely seen.

Taste of the Old Pulteney 1989 Vintage:

The Old Pulteney 1989 Vintage shimmers amber in the glass and offers an intense, fruity bouquet. Green apples, pears and citrus fruits are initially surrounded by warm wood smoke. Oriental herbs and spices also emerge, giving the Old Pulteney 1989 Vintage a wonderfully fresh impression. Vanilla, caramel and honey round off the exceptionally harmonious aroma in the background. The quality and outstanding composition of this single malt whisky is impressively demonstrated even before the first sip.

The Old Pulteney 1989 Vintage is full and intense in taste. Dark fruits, spicy oak and gentle peat smoke are present. Becoming sweeter over time, butter biscuits, toffee and freshly baked sponge cake come to the fore. Hints of coconut, leather, coffee and tart orange marmalade round off the taste impression.

The finish of the Old Pulteney 1989 Vintage seems almost endless. Peat smoke, tobacco and notes of citrus fruits form the finale and remain on the tongue for a long time.

With the Old Pulteney 1989 Vintage, the connoisseur can expect a wonderfully balanced composition of distillery character, barrel aromas and elegant smokiness, perfectly balanced and extremely versatile. This makes the Old Pulteney 1989 Vintage a truly exceptional whisky.

Old Pulteney Single Malt Whisky Vintage 1990, 0,7L 46%
Old Pulteney Single Malt Whisky Vintage 1990 0.7L 46% History and production of the Old Pulteney 1990 Vintage: The Old Pulteney Distillery was founded in 1826 by James Henderson in the fishing village of Wick, in the north-east of Scotland. This happened at a time when Wick was experiencing a real boom thanks to the newly built fishing port. Thousands of workers moved to the far north to participate in the promising herring catch. The distillery therefore had no shortage of customers and the company was accordingly successful. But, as so often in history, this was to change permanently. When the initial herring boom gradually ebbed away and the city administration enforced alcohol abstinence, the once so popular Old Pulteney distillery was finally forced to close in 1931. But the stills did not have to wait long for their revival. Old Pulteney reopened its doors in 1951 and has been more successful than ever since. One of the highlights in the distillery's history was certainly the World Whisky Awards in March 2016. The Old Pulteney 1989 Vintage, a vintage bottling that was also stored in barrels that previously contained smoky whisky, was awarded the "Best Single Malt Whisky of the Year 2016" award. The sensation was perfect and all bottlings sold out overnight. To the delight of all whisky fans, the successor has now been released: the Old Pulteney 1990 Vintage. Here, too, only exclusive barrels that previously contained strongly smoky single malt whisky were selected for maturation. This adds a delicate smokiness to the typical fruity, maritime distillery character. Bottled at 46%, the Old Pulteney 1990 Vintage is extremely strong. Just like its predecessor, this is a strictly limited special edition that will certainly sell out just as quickly. So it's doubly worth snapping up. Tasting the Old Pulteney 1990 Vintage: When nosing, the Old Pulteney 1990 Vintage immediately celebrates its otherness. Untypically for the distillery in the north, a delicate smoky note is noticeable right from the start. This is accompanied by wonderfully fruity notes of mangos, pineapples, bananas, but also green apples, lemons and pears. In short, the Old Pulteney 1990 Vintage reflects the full variety of a fruit salad. In the background, sweet, slightly floral aromas emerge. Honey, vanilla, but also butter biscuits, pecans and orange blossoms round off the Old Pulteney 1990 Vintage wonderfully. By adding a little water, the bouquet becomes calmer and gentler. A pleasant maltiness and hints of marzipan emerge, the fruitiness seems reduced. In terms of taste, the Old Pulteney 1990 Vintage initially impresses with its strong, full-bodied start, which seems extraordinarily fresh and elegant. There is a wonderful interplay of sweet and sour notes, which is further enhanced by the subtle smokiness. There are bananas, pineapple, gooseberries, candied ginger, as well as spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg and cardamom. Maritime notes are present in the background, which are expressed in a slight saltiness. The finish of the Old Pulteney 1990 Vintage is long and stands out clearly from the initial aromas. Oak wood, peat smoke, a hint of tobacco and seaweed completely transform the fruity-sweet aroma and taste profile. Phenomenally complex and expressive! It is precisely the harmonious combination of fruity-maritime distillery character and the exceptional barrel storage that ensures this high level of complexity and balance. The peaty smokiness makes the Old Pulteney 1990 Vintage even more complex and therefore refreshingly different. For fans of the distillery, the Old Pulteney 1990 Vintage is an absolute must.

Old Pulteney Single Malt Whisky 16 Yo 0,7L 46%
Old Pulteney Single Malt Whisky 16 years 0.7L 46% Old Pulteney Pulteney is the most northerly Scottish single malt whisky distillery on the Scottish mainland. The distillery, built in 1826, is located in the small village of Wick, which was once designed by Thomas Telford and Sir William Pulteney as the ideal fishing port. It was during this opening phase that the town experienced a real herring boom, which was of course perfect for James Henderson, the founder of the distillery, and the sale of his whisky. Shortly afterwards, however, the Wick town council had to impose an alcohol ban and turn the town into a 'dry town' in order to curb the amount of alcohol consumed. For a long time, whisky from the Pulteney distillery was only available through independent bottlers such as Gordon & MacPhail, which is of course different today. But even today you can find bottlings from Gordon & MacPhail as well as Cadenheads and Duncan Taylor. The distillery's core range includes a 12-, 15-, 18- and 25-year-old. In addition to these, there are also a few special bottlings with 'special' names, such as "Floatilla", "Duncansby Head" or "Noss Head". Old Pulteney 16 Year Old Malt Whisky For an even more intense and, above all, more complex taste, the Pulteney matures in two different types of barrels, followed by a blend of the two barrels. American bourbon barrels and Spanish sherry barrels are used for the maturation period. Notes of honey, vanilla and a pleasant aroma of smoky oak wood spread on the nose. Nevertheless, you have to give the 16-year-old some time in the glass to fully develop. But if you give it that time, every second of waiting will be worth it. The taste is initially a little reserved, then a more intense, sharper spiciness follows. Then, just like on the nose, vanilla, honey and oak.

Old Pulteney Single Malt Scotch Whisky Huddart 0,7L 46%
Old Pulteney Single Malt Scotch Whisky Huddart 0.7L 46% Old Pulteney Distillery In the tranquil village of Wick, on the very northern tip of the Scottish mainland, you can find the Old Pulteney Distillery. It is a small fishing village and was considered the 'herring capital' of Europe in the 19th century. Where many workers came together and did hard work, alcohol was often not far away. So James Henderson founded the Old Pulteney Distillery in 1826 to quench the workers' thirst. The name of the distillery is also closely related to fishing: Henderson named his whisky after the then director of the fishing company, Sir William Johnstone Pullteney. Huddart Single Malt The new product from the Old Pulteney distillery is named after the street on which the production facility is located. It is a whisky with a strong character, with notes of honey, smoke and leather as well as fruity notes such as apple and sweet vanilla. It is ideal for whisky newbies who want to gain their first experience with a much smokier and slightly peaty whisky.

Old Pulteney Vintage 2006 Single Malt Scotch Whisky 1.0L 46% Old Pulteney Distillery Every distillery has its own charm and brings out its own character, partly through its history or partly through its geographical location. In the case of the Old Pulteney Distillery, it is clearly the location of the distillery. It is based in Wick, the northernmost town in Scotland. Its proximity to the North Sea gives the whiskies a subtle touch reminiscent of fresh sea air. Vintage 2006 Single Malt Scotch Whisky This single malt was distilled in 2006 and then stored in first-fill American oak barrels. A characteristic feature of whiskies from the Old Pulteney distillery is the aroma that is slightly reminiscent of fresh sea air, which is due to the geographical location and is also very evident here in the 2006 vintage. On the palate, there are further notes such as honey, citrus and coconut as well as nuances of crème brûlée.
