Macallan Single Malt Whisky 12 Years Double Cask 0.7L 40%

Macallan was one of the first distilleries to be licensed to legally produce whisky. The distillery combines traditional methods, passion and craftsmanship. In terms of production and the natural ingredients used, it is based on the major influences of Spain, North America and, above all, Scotland. The distillery was founded by Alexander Reid, a barley farmer and teacher. The area in which the Macallen distillery is located was originally called 'Maghellan'. It is made up of the Gaelic 'magh', which means fertile land, and 'Ellan' from the monk St. Fillan, who had a close connection to the cherry that once stood on the site.

The Macallan Double Cask now matures exclusively in old sherry casks. The barrels have a special secret: American oak barrels were filled with sherry especially for the Macallen distillery to be used for maturing the whisky. Old sherry barrels made of European oak are also used to obtain an even better aroma. On the nose, the classic aroma of sherry accompanied by dried fruit and butterscotch. The full aroma is then revealed on the palate: creamy on the tongue, honey with jam and cinnamon is reminiscent of oven-fresh, warm pastries.

The distillery's whiskies are known for their sweet rather than smoky aromas. They mature mainly in sherry or wine casks, which contribute to the fruity-sweet aromas. In 1879, a good 50 years after it was founded, the distillery burned down. It was James Fleming who rebuilt the distillery and kept the most modern distillery of the time alive. Shortly before the turn of the century, in 1898, another fire destroyed most of the Abalour buildings and supplies. Here too, they did not let this get them down and quickly rebuilt the distillery. Aberlour Casg Annamh The name 'Casg Annamh' means 'rare barrel' in Gaelic and probably refers to the storage in the rare Oloroso sherry casks. In addition to this type of cask, the blend also consists of whisky from two different American white oak casks. The use of these two types creates a fine, fruity whisky for which Aberlour is also known. When tasting, the first aromas to emerge on the nose are of blood orange, sweet cherries, fresh ginger and spices. On the palate, it is full-bodied with other fruity notes. Benromach Single Malt Whisky 10 years 0.7L 43% The Benromach distillery, built in 1898 in Forres near Elgin, was taken over by the Urquhart family in 1993. Their aim was to revive the lost Speyside style with malted barley and a hint of peat smoke. This traditional process dates back to the time when all malthouses in Speyside used peat as fuel, which gave the Benromach whiskies their characteristic taste. The reopening of the distillery in 1998 by Prince Charles marked the return of a lost Speyside single malt style. The distillery relies on tradition and craftsmanship. The highly qualified master distillers rely exclusively on their senses and experience to produce the award-winning handmade whisky. The four ingredients barley, water, yeast and a human touch form the basis. The mash is stirred by hand, water flow and grist are manually controlled and fermentation takes place in larch washbacks. Double distillation in bespoke copper stills produces a medium-strength spirit suitable for variable maturation periods. The quality of the casks, particularly first-fill oak casks after wort with bourbon or sherry, is crucial to the flavour and character of the whisky. The maturation process is strictly controlled to ensure excellent quality standards. The 10-year-old Benromach Single Malt Whisky is a golden amber. Sweet green apple and pear unfold on the nose, accompanied by creamy dark honey. Gentle smoke is accompanied by a development of gentle vanilla notes. On the palate, gentle flavours of malted grain and compote combine with warm toffee and a hint of black cherry. The full-bodied finish presents malty grain and gentle smoke.
