Glen Moray Elgin Classic Portwood Finish 0.7L 40% The history of Glen Moray A brewery became a distillery. This is how the story of Glen Moray begins. The current distillery was originally the Elgin West Brewery, which opened its doors in 1830 and produced local ales. The first whisky, produced from local grain, flowed from a still on September 13, 1897. Even then, the fresh distillates were filled into a variety of different barrels, which was very unusual at the time but has continued at Glen Moray to this day. The distillery was eventually acquired by Macdonald & Muir - a wine and spirits merchant - and after a short break in production during the Second World War, new warehouses were opened in 1956 to meet the increasing demand. In the following years the expansion continued and two new copper pot stills and a new still house were opened, while the distillery was converted from coal to oil. In 1999 the first two bottlings from the "First Wood" series were finally bottled, which was made from Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay, which was considered revolutionary in the industry at the time. Since 2005 Graham Coull has been the fifth master distiller and has been in charge of whisky production at Glen Moray and is also responsible for the Glen Moray Classic Portwood Finish. The Glen Moray Classic Portwood Finish This light and fruity whisky was stored for eight months in port wine barrels that were previously used to store Porto Cruz Port. By being stored in the port wine barrel the whisky takes on intense aromas of dark chocolate, cinnamon and summer fruits as well as a subtle pink color. It impresses with aromas of toasted vanilla, dried fruit and a fine, caramel-like sweetness. In the aftertaste, a fine oak note and a delicate spiciness can be perceived. For us, the Glen Moray Classic Portwood Finish is a highlight among the Speyside whiskies in this price category and a great addition to any collection.
