The rum produced at that time was not only for enjoyment, but also had medicinal purposes. The British Navy received barrels of high-proof rum to disinfect the drinking water on board. On long sea voyages, the water spoiled quickly, and by adding rum it could be kept germ-free. Therefore, each sailor received a daily ration of 0.5 liters (!) of rum. To provide this enormous amount, up to 300 distilleries in Guyana provided supplies. However, since the consumption of such quantities of rum was by no means beneficial to the health of the sailors, rum rations were gradually reduced and eventually abolished altogether when alternative methods of preserving water on long voyages were developed.

These rums were aged for 24 years in former bourbon barrels in the tropical climate of Guyana and bottled without cold filtration. The result is a rum of amber-colored elegance.

The nose reveals a tantalizing aroma of sweet fruits such as orange and banana, accompanied by hints of honey and almonds. On the palate, a fascinating combination of dried fruit, liquorice and dark chocolate is presented, rounded off by a subtle hint of green apple.
