For several years now, there has been a new generation of American whiskeys. These are the so-called small batch whiskeys. They are comparable to the long-known single barrel whiskeys, i.e. single barrel bottlings. For the small batch bottlings, only the best barrels are selected, but it is also permitted to blend several of these top barrels. This creates highly complex whiskeys in the smallest quantities, the style of which, however, remains reproducible to a certain extent.

While brands with very low production volumes, such as Maker's Mark, have always represented a type of small batch bourbon, the large corporations only later became aware of the potential of this whiskey category. One of the pioneers in this segment was Jim Beam. They brought a small series of four different small batch bourbons onto the market. In addition to Baker's, these are Basil Hayden's, Booker's and Knob Creek.

Baker's is a Kentucky Straight Bourbon that bears the name of Baker Beam. Baker Beam was the great-nephew of the famous James "Jim" Beam and after his death was master distiller responsible for the two Jim Beam distilleries in Clermont and Boston. Baker was a sixth generation whiskey distiller and Jim Beam proudly notes on the bottles that the secret of Baker's Bourbon can be found in the bottle and not on the label.

Bakers is a great bourbon whiskey

A special strain of yeast is used to produce this top-quality bourbon. This has been owned by the Jim Beam Company for over 60 years and gives Baker's Bourbon a silky smooth structure that can be found in every batch. After distillation, the bourbon matures for seven years in new oak barrels. It is then bottled by hand at a strong 53.5% ABV!

The combination of a selected grain mixture, the yeast and the very long storage time for a bourbon give Baker's an incomparable mildness. The nose and palate quickly reveal a variety of aromas of various fully ripe fruits, roasted nuts and a hint of vanilla. The medium-length aftertaste is pleasantly sweet and very soft. Overall, Baker's is a more than successful bourbon that is a real treat both neat and on ice!
