The four ingredients barley, water, yeast and a human touch form the basis. The mash is stirred by hand, water flow and grist are manually controlled and fermentation takes place in larch washbacks. Double distillation in bespoke copper stills produces a medium-strength spirit suitable for variable maturation periods. The quality of the casks, particularly first-fill oak casks after wort with bourbon or sherry, is crucial to the flavour and character of the whisky. The maturation process is strictly controlled to ensure excellent quality standards. The 10-year-old Benromach Single Malt Whisky is a golden amber. Sweet green apple and pear unfold on the nose, accompanied by creamy dark honey. Gentle smoke is accompanied by a development of gentle vanilla notes. On the palate, gentle flavours of malted grain and compote combine with warm toffee and a hint of black cherry. The full-bodied finish presents malty grain and gentle smoke.
