Old Pulteney Single Malt Scotch Whisky 12 years 0.7L 40% The history of Old Pulteney The Pulteney Distillery is located in Wick on the northern tip of Scotland and was founded in 1826 by James Henderson. The distillery is the northernmost on the Scottish mainland and is called simply Pulteney, while it calls its whisky Old Pulteney. The adjective is not intended to refer to the whisky's great age, but rather to the fact that it matures particularly quickly. For a long time, Old Pulteney whiskies were only available from independent bottlers. Since 1997, however, it has also been available in distillery bottlings and since around 2008 Old Pulteney has experienced a significant upswing and is very popular with enthusiasts. The name of the liqueur is based on the small island of Stroma, off the north coast of Scotland. The Stroma Malt Whisky Liqueur is intended to wash over the taste buds in the same way that the island is washed by the waves of the sea. The liqueur is produced using award-winning, strong malt whiskeys and lighter malt whiskeys. The different whiskeys are blended and then mixed with honey and various herbs and spices. Old Pulteney Single Malt Whisky 16 years 0.7L 46% Old Pulteney Pulteney is the most northerly Scottish single malt whisky distillery on the Scottish mainland. The distillery, built in 1826, is located in the small village of Wick, which was once designed by Thomas Telford and Sir William Pulteney as the ideal fishing port. It was during this opening phase that the town experienced a real herring boom, which was of course perfect for James Henderson, the founder of the distillery, and the sale of his whisky. Shortly afterwards, however, the Wick town council had to impose an alcohol ban and turn the town into a 'dry town' in order to curb the amount of alcohol consumed. For a long time, whisky from the Pulteney distillery was only available through independent bottlers such as Gordon & MacPhail, which is of course different today. But even today you can find bottlings from Gordon & MacPhail as well as Cadenheads and Duncan Taylor. The distillery's core range includes a 12-, 15-, 18- and 25-year-old. In addition to these, there are also a few special bottlings with 'special' names, such as "Floatilla", "Duncansby Head" or "Noss Head". Old Pulteney Single Malt Whisky 18 years 0.7L 46% History of Old Pulteney The distillery was founded in 1826 by Mr. James Henderson. He chose the perfect location, right by the fishing port of Wick in the north of Scotland. It was common practice at the time, and one of the few transport routes, to ship whisky directly across the sea to all parts of the world. The distillery remained in family ownership for another 100 years, until it was finally sold to James Watson & Son in 1920, and later bought back by John Dewar & Son. The distillery did not remain in their possession for long, either, as DCL bought Old Pulteney in 1925, only to shut it down five years later. It took until after the Second World War, until 1951, for a lawyer named Cumming to buy the closed distillery. He already owned the Balblair Distillery. Today it belongs to Inver House Distillers. 18-year-old The 18-year-old edition of Old Pulteney offers a fruity bouquet. On the nose, it evokes memories of warm apple strudel, balanced with fine spices such as cinnamon, vanilla and raisins. Something chocolatey and a hint of oak join in and continue the aromatic journey on the palate.
