Old Pulteney Single Malt Scotch Whisky 12 years 0.7L 40% The history of Old Pulteney The Pulteney Distillery is located in Wick on the northern tip of Scotland and was founded in 1826 by James Henderson. The distillery is the northernmost on the Scottish mainland and is called simply Pulteney, while it calls its whisky Old Pulteney. The adjective is not intended to refer to the whisky's great age, but rather to the fact that it matures particularly quickly. For a long time, Old Pulteney whiskies were only available from independent bottlers. Since 1997, however, it has also been available in distillery bottlings and since around 2008 Old Pulteney has experienced a significant upswing and is very popular with enthusiasts. Because of its sherry flavor and its slightly salty and dry taste, Old Pulteney is often referred to as the "Manzanilla of the North." The distillery's six cast-iron fermentation tanks (wash backs) each hold 24,000 liters and are lined with stainless steel. After the mash has fermented, it is first distilled in a wash still and then in a 17,300 liter spirit still. The resulting alcohol vapors are passed through a T-shaped, slightly sloping pipe (lyne arm) into a stainless steel condenser (worm tub), which is rarely found in this form these days. After condensation, the fresh distillate is filled into barrels made of the best oak wood to mature in them for over 12 years. More precisely in the village of Wick near the North Sea coast, making the Pulteney Distillery the northernmost on the Scottish mainland. The Pulteney distillery was built in 1826 by James Henderson and remained in family ownership until the 1920s. The Old Pulteney Stroma Malt Whisky Liqueur The Stroma Whisky Liqueur is the successor to the now sought-after Old Pulteney Liqueur, which was slightly lighter in terms of alcohol content than the current bottling. The name of the liqueur is based on the small island of Stroma, off the north coast of Scotland. The Stroma Malt Whisky Liqueur is intended to wash over the taste buds in the same way that the island is washed by the waves of the sea. The liqueur is produced using award-winning, strong malt whiskeys and lighter malt whiskeys. The different whiskeys are blended and then mixed with honey and various herbs and spices. The taste of the Old Pulteney Stroma Malt Whisky Liqueur In the glass, the whiskey liqueur shimmers in a dark gold and smells of fine whiskey, sherry, honey and spicy herbs. On the palate, the liqueur has a clear, but not too strong, sweetness and robust, full-bodied and fruity notes. The aftertaste is medium-length and intensely warming.
