From Mölln to Portugal
The tranquil town of Mölln in Schleswig-Holstein is not exactly associated with high-quality port wine, and yet the story of one of the most famous port wine houses in the world begins there.

The family of Henry Burmester, who founded the grain trading company Burmester & Nash in Portugal in 1730 together with John Nash, comes from Mölln. Shortly after its founding, the company moved to the trading town of Vila Nova de Gaia, which was already considered the main transshipment point for port wine at the time. Since Henry Burmester and John Nash saw greater profits in the port wine trade than in the grain trade, they too began shipping port wine to the British Isles and the rest of Europe in 1750.

Since every port wine producer was forced by law to export their port wine via Vila Nova de Gaia until 1986, smaller producers who did not own property there had to sell their wine to trading houses like Burmester. In this way, Burmester was not only able to secure prosperity, but also always had contact with and access to the products of the best producers in all of Portugal.

Through centuries of dealing with the best goods, Burmester was able to perfect the art of storing and blending individual products. Burmester is particularly known for one style of port wine - Tawny Port.

Burmester Tawny Port 30 years
Tawny is a longer-stored ruby port that takes on an amber color after a few years in the barrel. Unfortunately, many producers bring very young Tawnys onto the market and create the well-known Tawny color by adding white port wine. At Burmester, old traditions are still remembered and there are very old Tawnys that are brought onto the market.

A prime example of the art of Tawny production at Burmester is this Tawny Port 30 years. It matured in small oak barrels and was finally blended by the house's blending master to create this exceptional Tawny.

The taste of the Burmester Tawny Port 30 years
Such an exceptional port is difficult to describe - you have to experience it. In addition to the perfect amber color, the 30-year-old port impresses above all with its intense maturation aromas, which make it the ideal accompaniment to savory desserts. Despite all the years in the barrel, the Burmester Tawny Port 30 years has still retained some fresh aromas of cherry and red currant, for example, which blend wonderfully into the overall taste. An experience!
