The color is only due to the maturation in the barrel; the addition of caramel has been completely omitted. The rum spends this maturation phase in both the tropical climate of the Caribbean and the temperate climate in France and is a single barrel bottling, thus limited to 4,000 bottles. After many rums in the product line were released as cask strength, the Barbados 2012/2017 is a bottling at drinking strength and thus has an alcohol content of 46% vol.
