Tennessee Whisky

Tennessee Whisky differs from products such as Kentucky Bourbon in that it is a product with a geographical designation of origin, meaning:
Tennessee Whisky may only come from Tennessee. This clearly shows the consumer (usually through the product name, which is protected by trademark law) in which region the product was produced or processed.
Jack Daniel's is probably the best known brand that offers this type of whiskey worldwide.

It is usually produced like bourbon, i.e. the mash from which the distillate is made must consist of at least 51% corn; other types of grain such as barley or rye can also be used. This is followed by fermentation and distillation. Before this now enters the step of barrel maturation, comes the decisive big difference that defines a Tennessee whiskey:
the so-called 'Lincoln Country Process'.

In this process, the whiskey is filtered through a more or less thick layer (the thickness of this layer varies from distillery to distillery) of charcoal from sugar maple. The purpose of this method is on the one hand to produce a softer whiskey, and on the other to filter out any disruptive suspended particles.
The whiskey is then stored in mostly oak barrels.

One of the newest varieties is Tennessee Whiskey Sinatra Select. This was created by master distiller Jeff Arnett in honor of Frank Sinatra, who would have celebrated his 100th birthday. For a very special whiskey, Arnett selected special barrels with particularly deep notches. This special feature allows the whisky to work even more intensively with the oak during barrel maturation and thus develops a much stronger oak aroma.
