Rum production
Like most rums, Malteco 20YO rum comes from Central or South America, namely Guatemala. Other places where rum is produced besides the Philippines include Australia, Madagascar and India.
During rum production, the mash, which is a mixture of molasses or chopped sugar cane, sugar cane juice and water, is fermented and thus left to ferment. This mixture produces white rum after distillation. To produce a brown rum, the white rum is stored in used oak barrels and takes on the color from the wood. Caramel is usually also used for coloring.
Malteco Rum
The Malteco Rum 20YO is produced by "Industrias Licoreras de Guatemala". This is an association of various distilleries in Guatemala that are committed to making rum from Guatemala more well-known and successful.
The use of raw materials that have been grown and processed in the region itself is a top priority. Modern technology meets traditional manufacturing processes during production, which is what rums from Industrias Licoreras de Guatemala are known for.
In a way, they want to bring the legacy of the Mayas into the world.
The storage and the selected location as well as the climate at altitude in Guatemala and the oxygen content in the air have a special effect on Malteco rum. Malteco rum is stored for at least 20 years in selected, old oak barrels, which give it its mild, smoky aroma.
Taste
On the nose, the smell of Malteco rum is very pleasant and immediately invites you to try it. Sweet notes of caramel and vanilla increase the anticipation.
On the tongue, you will then be very happy with this harmonious, golden-brown, mild rum. Perfectly balanced and rounded off with subtle, smoky oak notes. With an alcohol content of 41% vol. not exactly a small amount, but the Malteco rum's mild notes make it ideal for connoisseurs who don't like strong rums.
This premium rum is actually far too high-quality as an ingredient for cocktails and long drinks; connoisseurs like to drink it neat or on the rocks.
