The products of the Danish rum producer AH Riise Rum LLC are not distilled directly in Denmark, but on the American Virgin Islands, more precisely on St. Thomas, in the Caribbean. Historically, however, St. Thomas was occupied by the Danes in 1666 and was therefore considered a Danish colony. The goods produced there were sold profitably and were an important part of the Danish economy. In 1838, the Dane Albert Heinrich Riise was appointed the island's first pharmacist by royal decree. He developed various medicines for the Danish navy, supplied the local population with medicine, produced specially created tinctures and also sold genuine Caribbean rum, which quickly became very popular. Riise was a clever businessman and achieved worldwide fame and prosperity through his products. In 1888, the second Nordic Industrial, Agricultural and Art Exhibition took place in Copenhagen. The five Scandinavian countries Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland presented technical innovations and cultural achievements to over 1.4 million visitors for six months. AH Riise also exhibited his popular Caribbean rum in the West Indian pavilion, for which he was honored with the Gold Medal for outstanding products. This dark amber-colored spirit reveals a mild navy style with aromas of licorice, dried fruit, delicate orange, caramel and an abundance of fruit sweetness. Abuelo 12 Years Rum 0.05L 40% Ron Abuelo 12 years is aged in Panama for at least 12 years in oak barrels to develop its delicate, full-bodied, nutty, round, chocolatey and smooth aromas of vanilla, plum and speculaas. Abuelo Rum 15 Years Oloroso Sherry Cask Finish 0.7L 40% This Abuelo Rum 15 Years Oloroso Sherry Cask Finish 0.7L 40% is part of the exclusive "Cask Finish" rum collection from Varela Hermanos SA, a third-generation family business in Panama and one of the most important rum producers in Central America. The fine sugar cane that provides the molasses as the basis for this rum is grown and harvested on the company's own plantations. After a molasses fermentation of around 2 days, the extensive distillation takes place in various column pot stills. Then the decisive maturation phase for the distillate begins, which lasts an impressive 15 years. First, this maturation takes place in ex-bourbon barrels made of American white oak using the complex Solera process, followed by storage in former ex-Oloroso sherry barrels. This unique combination gives the rum its sherry cask finish, which produces sweet and rich aromas with typical sherry notes of dried fruit as well as its reddish amber color. Notes of sherry, dried exotic fruits, raisins and light wood tones unfold on the nose. The palate experiences something similar, combined with a delicate and sophisticated blend of fruit and smoke. Abuelo Rum Anejo 0.7L 40% Abuelo Rum Anejo is produced in Panama by the Valera Hermanos SA distillery and is light golden in color. Abuelo Rum Anejo was stored for 3 years in oak barrels and has alcoholic notes with medicinal overtones, tones of fresh fruit, vanilla and caramel on the nose. While this rum seems strong at the beginning, with a distinctive spiciness, Abuelo Rum Anejo soon reveals aromas of nuts, caramel, tanned leather and tobacco. The aftertaste is long with clear notes of wood and leather.
