It was invented in 1796 by the botanist and chemist François Pons, who ran a small distillery in Revel. Some time later, Victoire Sablier, the daughter of a foreman employed by Pons, married the ambitious Jean Get. This drew the latter's attention to the mint liqueur and he was immediately enthusiastic. He received the recipe and began producing the unique peppermint liqueur together with his brother Pierre.
