Aelred

This is the new brand of the already well-known Eygeubelle brand, which has a centuries-old tradition in the production of spirits. The distillery is located right in the heart of the Drôme Provencale, perfect conditions for herbal spirits. It all began with the creation of a monastery and the monks who lived there. They set about creating complex recipes for herbal and fruit liqueurs from various herbs and plants. Today, some of the spirits are still produced according to these old original recipes. This is how the legacy of the Cistercian monks can live on.

Liqueur 1889 Creme Vineyards Peach

Made from Rhône-Alpes vine peaches, the Creme de Pêche de Vigne offers an incredible aromatic quality. Intense aromas and a creamy mouthfeel give the impression of just biting into a freshly picked peach.

The liqueur is versatile: in addition to being enjoyed pure on ice or as an addition to cocktails, the peach liqueur also cuts a fine figure in the kitchen, for example with ice cream or as a special ingredient in a salad dressing for a fruity note.

The original recipe for 'l'Elixir de Vie', for example, dates back to 1239. Benedictus von Nuraien from the Villeneuve de Berg Abbey created it. Some of the other recipes for the spirits that are still available today also date back to the early days of the monastery and have been meticulously passed down from generation to generation. Tasting advice for herbal liqueurs of this quality Take the comparison with tasting a good wine. Here, with wine in your mouth, you suck in some air. In contrast, the complexity of a good herbal liqueur can best be understood when you exhale. The CO2 awakens the taste buds, so to speak, calms them down and the aromatic notes develop much better.

Aelred liqueur 1889 Creme de Mûre Sauvage (blackberry) 0.5L 16% In the footsteps of the old monks They were gifted experts in the world of herbs and plants and only in this way could the products made from plants, sugar and alcohol not only convince with their unmistakable taste, they were even said to have a digestive and invigorating effect. It all began with these plant liqueurs, which have such a long tradition, require masterly expertise that has been passed down from generation to generation and of course the most important factor: time. Today, in addition to the original products, the range also includes others, such as modern liqueurs with a low alcohol content and special aromas, anise liqueurs such as the well-known French pastis, fruit aperitifs and liqueurs. Liqueur or crème? In Aelred's premium segment, we find a range of spirits that have the word 'crème' in their name. What exactly is the difference between this and a normal liqueur? The sugar content of crème is even higher than that of a normal liqueur. This means that the aromas are even more intense. For the Mûre Sauvage, or wild blackberries in English, only wild blackberries are used, as they have a more distinctive taste than traditionally cultivated blackberries.

Aelred Liqueur 1889 Creme Chataigne D'Ardeche (chestnut) 0.5L 16% Aelred These products under the new name 'Aelred' also come from the already well-known French spirits and liqueur brand Eyguebelle. The A and E are written together, 'Ælred', and are intended to represent the development of the company and the transition from Aiguebelle to Eyguebelle. Once you know that Eyguebelle translates as 'beautiful water', the new brand name also makes sense and is something like the spiritual version, Aelred stands for 'spirit of the source'. Liqueur 1889 Creme Ardeche Chestnut For the Chestnut Liqueur, only chestnuts from the Ardèche are used. It must be clearly mentioned here again that the term 'chestnut' refers to an edible variety. Sweet chestnuts (marrons) or chestnuts are relatives of the 'horse chestnut' that you know from the large parks. These are in fact inedible and some are poisonous. The fruits that are used in the liqueur come from specially grafted trees whose fruits are suitable for consumption. In terms of taste, the Chestnut Liqueur moves between sweet caramel notes and the nutty character of the chestnuts and is incredibly soft on the palate. It is particularly good as an accompaniment to cocktails, but it also shows its nutty aroma in the kitchen, for refining sauces or over vanilla ice cream. In 2018, the Liqueur 1889 Creme Ardeche Chestnut even won the gold medal at the Concours Général Agricole in Paris and the silver medal in 2020.

Aelred Liqueur 1889 Crème de Cassis de la Drôme 0.5L 16% Since 1889 – Aelred The monks who lived here at the beginning of the monastery's history developed their own recipes for various spirits. To this day, these are of great importance for production and some of the products on the market are still made according to the monks' recipes. Production also follows a closely guarded process, which preserves the unique character and typical taste. Sometimes up to three different processes are used in one product: maceration, distillation or infusion. Crèmes de Fruits The Crème de Fruits range consists of a total of eight products. All products are based on the same principle: Fruit teas are combined with alcohol and cane sugar to create a fine liqueur with intense fruit notes. You can serve the Crème de Cassis with white wine or, for the sparkling version, with Prosecco.
