W.L. Weller 12 Year Old Wheated Bourbon Whiskey 0.7L 45%
The Weller brand, originally part of the Stitzel-Weller Distilling Company, is now produced by the Sazerac Company in Frankfort, Kentucky. The Stitzel Distillery, based in Louisville, Kentucky, produced Old Rip Van Winkle before Prohibition and operated under a state license to produce "medicinal alcohol" during the 13 years of the "Great Experiment." Later, this distillery produced well-known brands such as W.L. Weller, Cabin Still, Rebel Yell, and Old Fitzgerald. After several changes in ownership, the distillery finally closed in 1991. While most bourbon whiskeys primarily use corn and rye as their base, Weller uses wheat as a secondary grain alongside corn. This tradition dates back to William Larue Weller, who was the first to replace the then-common rye with wheat and produced his first Wheated Bourbon Whiskey in 1849. The W.L. Weller 12 Year Old Wheated Bourbon Whiskey is aged for 12 years and has a medium amber color. It offers sweet notes that blend harmoniously with floral aromas and vanilla. Its body is powerful and pronounced, with a balanced mouthfeel. Fruity, honeyed flavors play excitingly with vanilla and sharp, spicy notes. The finish is pleasantly long and spicy. The influence of the long barrel aging is clearly noticeable in the W.L. Weller 12 Year Old Bourbon Whiskey, with unmistakable toffee and oak notes. Due to its lower alcohol content compared to the Weller Antique Bourbon 7 Year Old, it gains smoothness and is more approachable than its stronger, younger sibling.
