The latest bottling was made on the French archipelago from molasses rum. On the rum island of Guadeloupe, the traditional agricultural production of rum is still carried out today. Agricultural rum dominates the rum market here, but as it is a seasonal product, an alternative had to be considered. The distilleries have therefore concentrated on molasses-based rum. You often don't even get to see a pure molasses rum, as this is often used for blends. It is all the nicer to get a product from a range of high-quality rums here. The Guadeloup Rum 2013 matured for almost 3 years in Guadeloupe and another year in continental maturation in Europe. Before bottling, it was diluted to 43% vol drinking strength. On the nose, you can detect an aroma of Gewürztraminer, followed by oriental notes such as rose petals and fruity aromas of apricots and quinces. Notes of sugar cane can also be detected. These oriental influences continue in the taste: raisins and apricots. The finish is surprisingly long, with a pleasant sweetness.

This time you get to taste the influence of the climate zones of the Caribbean and Europe on the rum. Despite its French roots and the background of the 'Agricole Island' of Barbados, this rum was distilled from molasses instead of fresh sugar cane juice. The color is only due to the maturation in the barrel; the addition of caramel has been completely omitted. The rum spends this maturation phase in both the tropical climate of the Caribbean and the temperate climate in France and is a single barrel bottling, thus limited to 4,000 bottles. After many rums in the product line were released as cask strength, the Barbados 2012/2017 is a bottling at drinking strength and thus has an alcohol content of 46% vol. Tasting The taste of the 5-year-old rum is very lively, you can detect notes of spices and dried fruit, but also strong wood notes and Caribbean fruit notes such as pineapple or coconut.

A brief explanation for all of those who don't really know what the term 'Angel's Share' is: During production and subsequent storage in oak barrels, a certain amount of the whisky evaporates, so it basically dissolves into thin air or, more in keeping with the name, it 'ascends to heaven'. This way even the angels can treat themselves to a sip of whisky. Marco Savio, founder of the brand 'The Demons Share', asks himself why only the angels should benefit from it, when they already have their fun with wine and ambrosia. Its bouquet offers ripe fruit, plantains, cocoa and a hint of wood. On the palate, it presents a variety of aromas, including vanilla, pastries, spicy oak and a hint of smoke. Its finish is long-lasting.
