The Observatory

The Observatory 20 Years Single Grain Whisky has now been released as part of the Signature Series. With its name, the series pays respect to the numerous Scottish lighthouses along the 10,000 mile long coast.
This bottling comes from the Macduff distillery, which can be found in the shadow of the Macduff Lighthouse. The 20-year-old single grain whisky matured in bourbon barrels and was created by one of the few female master blenders in the whisky segment, Stephanie Macleod.

What aromas can you find here?

The further maturation in ex-bourbon barrels has given the whisky a number of additional aromas. Sweet fruit notes meet vanilla and butterscotch. Added to this is the aroma of summer berries and subtle lemon notes.

Cameron Brig Single Grain Scotch Whisky, 0,7 L, 40%
Cameron Brig Single Grain Scotch Whisky 0.7L 40% The former owner of the Cameronbridge distillery in the Lowlands was a cousin of Robert Stein, the inventor of the continuous distillation process. It is therefore not surprising that the Cameronbridge distillery quickly switched to this process and thus produced high-quality grain whisky. After producing both malt and grain whisky for several years, the distillery decided to concentrate its whisky production on grain whisky. This whisky is one of the few available of the rare single grain whiskies. It runs amber-gold into the glass and is reminiscent of freshly cut hay and caramel on the nose. On the palate there are clear notes of fruit, toffee and pepper. The aftertaste is relatively short, but makes you want the next sip!

Teeling Single Grain Whiskey, 0,7L 46%
Teeling Single Grain Whiskey, 0.7L 46% History and production of Teeling Single Grain: Teeling - no other name is so closely linked to Irish whiskey history. Walter Teeling founded a small distillery in Dublin as early as 1782. This was to lay the foundation for the worldwide success of Irish whiskey and to this day the name Teeling is inseparably linked with whiskey production in Ireland. Teeling and its outstanding distillate sparked a real boom, which led to a large number of new establishments; there were more than 30 distilleries in Dublin alone. Due to unfortunate circumstances and dubious decisions (not least due to Prohibition in the USA), Irish whiskey began to lead a downright shadowy existence from the second half of the 20th century. The last distillery in Dublin was subsequently to close its doors in 1976... until the new Teeling Whiskey Distillery saw the light of day in 2015. The historic name should immediately make the claim clear: first-class quality, exceptional taste, passion and tradition should make Irish whiskey a successful global player again. Even if the conditions for this have been created, it is undoubtedly a difficult legacy to inherit. For this purpose, a state-of-the-art distillery was built in the center of Dublin. In order to do justice to the traditional production method of triple distillation, there are a total of three copper pot stills that ensure a mild, gentle taste. As the Teeling Distillery only started distilling in 2015, no whiskey with the prescribed minimum storage time can of course be brought onto the market at this point in time. To bridge the waiting time, exclusive whiskeys from the Irish Cooley distillery, which was founded by John Teeling in 1987, are regularly released. The Teeling Single Grain presented here belongs to a very rare whisky category. As the name suggests, it is a whiskey that is made from 100% unmalted barley. Distillation took place in the Cooley distillery's column still. The Teeling Single Grain was then matured in ex-bourbon barrels made from American white oak and then finished in Californian wine barrels that previously contained Cabernet Sauvignon. It is also particularly noteworthy that the Teeling Single Grain is bottled at a strong 46% alcohol by volume and is neither colored nor chill-filtered. Tasting the Teeling Single Grain: The Teeling Single Grain has a dark, reddish shimmering color. When nosing, it initially presents fruity aromas of raspberries, pears, apples and citrus fruits. Vanilla, herbs and spices emerge in the background. Overall, the aroma of the Teeling Single Grain is very light and delicate. This makes it very different from single malt whisky. The taste of the Teeling Single Grain is very strong and distinctly spicy. Notes of nutmeg, allspice and candied ginger are gradually complemented by fruity components such as grapes, raisins and red berries. The finish shows a solid tannin structure and full-bodied oak, reminiscent of high-quality cognac. The Teeling Single Grain is an extremely interesting whiskey that has a completely new play of tastes and aromas thanks to the use of unmalted barley.
