Spirits in the fall
Delicious treats for the golden season
Autumn is a special time of year. Nature turns shades of gold and brown as the temperatures slowly drop. Now is the time to make yourself comfortable at home - with culinary delights, of course. Spirits with spicy aromas are ideal for this in autumn.
Heavier flavors for spirits in autumn
As a time of harvest and leaf fall, autumn can be a little “melancholy” in culinary terms, which invigorates the palate and spirit. Now is the time to serve dishes that are enriched with pear and plum flavors as well as cloves and almonds. We can enjoy the rich fruits and nuts that have been ripening for months. What a treat for the palate! However, hearty fruit not only enriches hearty dishes, but also exquisite spirits for the fall. For example, there are schnapps with pear and plum flavors that are very aromatic and intended for pure enjoyment. They are just as suitable as a digestif as they are as an accompaniment to a fresh fruit tart. In general, they can be a little heavier to enjoy, as the outside temperatures harmonize perfectly with them.
Time for Coziness with Whiskey, Rum, and Autumn Cocktails
Autumn can be stormy, rainy, and chilly. It's time to dig out the umbrella and rain boots to brave the weather. The time we spend outdoors gradually decreases. More often, we find ourselves in our warm homes, making ourselves comfortable in front of the TV. For those looking for the right drink for a series marathon or an epic movie, brandies and liqueurs are a good choice. They have hearty aromas that warm the body from the inside. Some are even said to aid digestion, which is especially helpful after enjoying hearty autumn dishes like stuffed cabbage rolls or beef stew before a home movie night. For cozy moments by the fireplace, whiskeys are a stylish choice. A high-quality rum is an excellent alternative. And if your cozy time turns into a social gathering with neighbors or friends, an autumn cocktail is a must. Rum can be enriched with pear juice and flavors like ginger for this. Nutty flavors are also a good choice, as they represent autumn excellently.
Teatime with a Twist: Tea Grog Recipe
What could be better for autumn than tea? The English, who live in a country with many rainy days, have known this for centuries. They have made their tradition of teatime world-famous. To spice it up a bit, all you need are some autumn spices and rum. This creates a teatime with a twist that fits the season perfectly. This recipe is very aromatic, and the fresh lemon, with its vitamin C, boosts the immune system.
Ingredients for a Tea Grog for Two Cups:
• 3 black tea bags
• 1 star anise
• 1 untreated lemon
• 16 cl dark rum
• 2 large pieces of rock candy
Preparation of the Tea Grog:
Boil 400 ml of water in a pot. Then put the tea and star anise in a carafe and pour the boiling water over them. Let the mixture steep for 5 minutes.
In the meantime, place a piece of rock candy in each tea glass.
Cut the lemon in half and slice 2 pieces. Squeeze the remaining halves. Pour the juice equally over the rock candy and add 8 cl of rum to each glass. Garnish each glass with one of the lemon slices. Done!
If you don't like anise, you can replace it with another autumn spice. Ginger is a good option, as it also boosts the immune system. As an alternative to rum, a nut liqueur can be used. Since it is already sweet enough, you can skip the rock candy.
