Spirits at Christmas

Spirits for the most sensual time of the year

Christmas is gourmet time. This applies not only to the food, but also to the drinks. Gin, whisky, rum, eggnog and Glögli are spirits that complement Christmas dinner. They go well with various classic Christmas dishes and are also suitable for mixing winter cocktails if required.

The best spirits for Christmas and Christmas Eve

Christmas is a time of big celebrations. On Christmas Eve and the two Christmas holidays in particular, the food served is lavish and elaborate. Of course, the right drink should not be missing from a festive meal, as it can enhance the flavors of the food. But which spirits are served at Christmas? The classic roast goose or duck is usually served with dumplings, red cabbage or other hearty side dishes. As delicious as this meal tastes, it is heavy on the stomach. This is where a fine single malt whisky comes in handy, as its smoky flavour harmonizes well with the barding. Another classic Christmas dish is cheese fondue. A gin with delicate herbal and floral notes is now the perfect choice. Gin is also a real enrichment with fine lobster, as long as it is not too dominant in taste. A mild version is preferable to a stronger one. And what about rum? Rum lovers don't have to do without this spirit at Christmas. A dark, aromatic rum - neat - is a suitable accompaniment to duck, partridge or quail. A pigeon with mandarin can also be cleverly prepared for the festive season and served with a medium-bodied rum. If the dessert is a creamy dish with cinnamon or speculoos spice, a fruity vintage Glögi goes very well with it. Scandinavian mulled wine also goes well with typical Christmas cookies such as Christmas stollen.

Christmas Cocktail Recipe: Let it Snow!

Admittedly, most people will wait in vain for a white Christmas. Especially around Christmas time, much of Germany expects temperatures above freezing. It's time to create a little winter wonderland within your own four walls. This can be achieved with the classic Snowball cocktail. This popular drink is easy and quick to prepare and makes the wait for Christmas more enjoyable. The key to this drink is that its alcoholic component – eggnog – is of selected quality.

The recipe:
- 120 ml PSM eggnog
- 400 ml lemon soda (organic quality)
- 150 g crushed ice
- juice of 1 lime
- 4 lime slices for garnish

These spirits belong under the Christmas tree

As wonderful as Christmas Eve is, it is also dreaded. Will the recipient pull a long face when he unwraps my present? To create true Christmas joy, the gift should be well thought out. Spirits that match the festive season are always a good idea. If they are given as part of a set, a beaming smile is guaranteed. The Plantation Rum Barbados Extra Old set, for example, looks very sophisticated and festive. As Christmas time is nut time, a set with Amaretto DiSaronno Originale also looks good under the Christmas tree. The Christmas edition of Chopin luxury vodka from Poland is decorated with an elaborate winter motif on the bottle. There could hardly be a better gift than this.

Merry Christmas!
