The Saint James Distillery, one of the oldest distilleries in the world, is located in Martinique and has been producing fine alcohol since 1765. When the royal family banned rum production in France, the distillery in the French overseas department found a suitable solution to continue producing rum. The rum is traditionally distilled from pure, fresh sugar cane juice, with large bubbles being used in the still to produce the Rhum Agricole. The AOC-protected rum may only be produced in the Lesser Antilles and sold under the name if it was produced in French territory.
The Saint James Vieux 7 Years may be the youngest in the Vieux trilogy, but its high quality speaks for itself. The Saint James 7 Years Vieux Agricole Rhum 0.7L 43% matures for seven years in selected oak barrels and develops a complex, full-bodied character with a round body. In terms of color, it is reminiscent of copper or cashew nuts, but without the taste of these. The nose reveals rounded wood notes and gentle spice aromas that seduce the connoisseur. On the palate, fine notes of freshly ground roasted coffee and toasted bread unfold, accompanied by intense spices such as nutmeg, which merge into sweet aromas such as cinnamon and plum. The finish is soft and warm, with a surprising intensity of the woody aroma.
