New interpretation

The new edition of Johnnie Walker's Whisky, Island Green, is a dynamic interpretation of the already well-known 'Green Label' whisky. The focus, however, is on 100% malt whisky, which is a clear difference, as grain whisky is usually used in blended whisky.

No Age Statement Whisky

An innovation in the whisky world means that whisky can be brought onto the market without an age statement. Otherwise, the age of the youngest whisky contained must always be stated. However, since the Island Green wanted a much smokier taste, and this aroma diminishes with age, an NSA bottling was chosen.
You can clearly smell the smokiness with peppery spices and citrus notes. This smoky aroma is even more pronounced on the palate, with some fine nougat and milk chocolate notes mixed in.
And other additives that are usually used in whisky after blending, such as chill filtration or color adjustment, have also been omitted in the new Johnnie Walker.

Johnnie Walker Blue Label Whisky, 1 L, 40%
Johnnie Walker Blue Label Whisky, 1 L, 40%

Johnnie Walker Whisky Blue Label 1.0L 40% Blended Scotch Whisky Scottish blended whisky is the best-selling whisky in the world. Its sales figures are significantly higher than those of single malts, bourbon, Irish or rye whiskeys in the world. The history of blended whiskeys began in 1828, when the inventor Robert Stein patented a continuous distillation system, the so-called column still or patent still. This was later further developed by the Irishman Aeneas Coffey and made it possible for the first time to distill whisky continuously and with a higher alcohol content. This made it possible to offer purer alcohol at a lower cost. A revolution at the time, when only traditional pot stills had been used to produce alcohol. The new devices spread quickly and around 1850 a distinction was made for the first time between whisky made from barley malt in pot stills, the so-called malt whisky, and grain whisky, which was distilled from unmalted barley and other grains in column stills. Grain whisky could be offered at a much lower price, but also had less flavor than malts. Around ten years later, Scottish whisky traders were allowed to mix these two qualities. Blended Scotch whisky was born. Scotch whisky finally became competitive on the international market. Scottish malts had previously been unable to establish themselves on this market due to their massive body and high price. In the following years, many companies were founded that specialized in the production and sale of blended whisky. One of these founding fathers was Alexander Walker. The story of John Walker In 1857, Alexander Walker took over his father John "Johnnie" Walker's general store. Among other things, Walker offered a blend of malt whiskies from various distilleries, which was well received by customers. Like many other merchants, however, Walker played more of a supporting role in the whisky business at the time. This changed when the law on the legal mixing of malt and grain whisky was passed in 1860. Alexander Walker experimented with many different types of whisky and eventually created his own blend, which was to become world famous. Johnnie Walker now sells over 100 million bottles of the house's basic blend, the so-called Red Label, every year. In addition to the Red Label, there are also other world-famous bottlings in Johnnie Walker's portfolio. The most famous of these is probably the legendary Blue Label. Blue Label - The King of Blended Whiskies The ultimate in the Johnnie Walker product line is the Blue Label. This is composed of malt and grain whiskies that are up to 60 years old and is based on a recipe by Alexander Walker. The Blue Label is considered one of the best blended Scotch whiskies on the market and does not even need to fear comparison with the best single malts. Its bouquet is extremely harmonious and, in addition to light smoky tones, shows a pleasant sherry note as well as nuances of roasted nuts and dried fruit. The palate reveals a wide spectrum of aromas with tones of spices, dark chocolate and oak. The aftertaste of Johnnie Walker Blue Label is distinctive, slightly smoky and of almost infinite length. An incomparably complex blended whisky that every whisky lover should try once in their life!
