At that time, the German Jakob Böhm emigrated to the Promised Land and was henceforth called Jacob Beam. Like most of his colleagues, Beam distilled the surplus from his grain production into liquor using his own still. The company was founded in 1795, when Jacob first distilled and sold his popular whiskey on a commercial basis. His great-grandson James "Jim" Beauregard took over the company in 1880 and gave it its name, which is still known worldwide today. At that time, however, the Jim Beam company was still relatively small and no quantities of spirits were produced that were relevant to the world market.
