RL Seale Distillery

The history of the successful Foursquare distillery began in 1820, when the Seale family was still working as rum traders or blenders, making them one of the oldest trading houses in Barbados. At that time, however, there was a law that prevented them from selling rum directly to the end consumer. So they had to find a way around this. It was Reginald Leon Seals who came up with the idea of founding a trading network in Bridgetown, and the RL Seale company was born. Today, the company is run by Richard Seals, the fifth generation.

Empery 14 Years Rum

The Barbados distillery presents a limited single blend with its Empery 14 YO Rum. It contains distillates that were distilled in both pot stills and column stills and matured in two different types of barrels, namely ex-bourbon and ex-sherry barrels, for a total of 14 years. In 2018, the different rums were then married and bottled at cask strength, again without coloring and without chill filtration.
This has resulted in a complex rum that has spicy, fruity and subtly sweet notes. The aromas can be described as dried fruit, dark chocolate, roasted nuts and oak spice.

From the waste that accrued from the sugar cane harvest, the slaves made an alcoholic drink that quickly became popular with the Europeans. They brought the alcohol from overseas back to their home countries. Today, the Foursquare Distillery, which stands on the site of the oldest sugar factory on the island, is one of the most modern in the region. What makes it so special? Not only are they still 'self-sufficient' thanks to the surrounding sugar plantations, but the fact that the Fourquare Distillery is the only one run by a local family puts them in the spotlight. Exceptional Cask Series The Exceptional Cask Series from the Fourquare Distillery includes a special series of blended rums. A new addition is the 10-year-old Port Cask Finish. The blend contains rums that were produced in the pot still and column style. It was matured in ex-bourbon barrels and in former port wine barrels, the latter being used as a finish. The rum is very intense with incredibly great fruit aromas that are reminiscent of blackcurrants, strawberries and even winter apples. The aroma is rounded off by notes of dark chocolate, but vanilla and spicy pepper notes can also be tasted.

The current master distiller Richard Seal has been considered the most innovative in his industry for some time. Time and again he manages to bring rum varieties onto the market that are absolutely balanced and simply perfectly matched in terms of taste. Rum Redoutable 14 years This blended rum contains 14-year-old rum from ex-bourbon barrels as well as 14-year-old rum from ex-Madeira barrels. There is also a rum called 'Sassafras', which has been matured twice in ex-bourbon barrels for 3 years and then for 11 years in ex-cognac barrels. As always with the Foursquare distillery, the focus is on bottlings without any additives such as coloring, preservatives or flavorings, the focus is on the unadulterated taste!

Foursquare Rum 2011 Cask Strength 0.7L 60% Foursquare 2011 Cask Strength Mark XXIV is a 12 year old single blended overproof rum from the Foursquare distillery in Barbados. It is produced using a combination of artistic pot still distillation and traditional multi-column Coffey distillation from sugar cane molasses. This rum is only bottled when the highest quality is guaranteed and is presented unfiltered. Foursquare Rum 2011 Cask Strength 0.7L 60% is a deep amber. Aromas of grapefruit, cocoa, caramel, clove, allspice, sandalwood and a salty breeze unfold on the nose. On the palate it is powerful yet smooth, with nuances of black tea, lemon peel, molasses, spices and exotic fruits. The finish is long, dry and with subtle tannins.
