Caribbean Rum
The world-famous Captain Morgan Rum has been one of the most sought-after rum brands for more than 70 years. Captain Morgan Rum was first produced by the Long Pond distillery in Jamaica in 1944. Today the rum is more accurately described as Caribbean rum, as it is no longer produced only in Jamaica, but at various locations in the Caribbean.
The brand is based on a well-known privateer from Wales who explored the Caribbean in the 17th century and was by no means one of the most popular people there at the time.
Dark Rum
The brand's dark rum is a blend of first-class rum from Jamaica, Barbados and Guyana. This is followed by a finish in heavily charred oak barrels, which not only gives it a dark colour, but also a much stronger aroma. Fruity aromas of raisins and caramel notes can be detected.

But who was this Captain Morgan? Captain Morgan was a native Welshman who went by the name of Henry Morgan and left his birth country in 1654 to seek his fortune on the Caribbean islands. As a privateer, he quickly made a name for himself in the western, tropical part of the Atlantic Ocean. Captain (Henry) Morgan was a born leader and quickly worked his way up to become captain of his ship. As a privateer, he had received a letter of marque from the British government, granting him permission to capture enemy ships on the high seas and to defend the interests of the British government. He was extremely successful in this, which is why he was knighted just a few years later. After his extremely successful time as a privateer, he lived as a plantation owner and governor in Jamaica until his death in 1688. The spiced rum named after him is now at least as famous as Captain Morgan himself and is known all over the world! The Captain Morgan Black Spiced The Captain Morgan Black Spiced Rum is matured in former bourbon whiskey barrels that are heavily charred and then filled with the triple-distilled rum. The heavy charring of the barrels is one of the factors that gives the Captain Morgan Black Spiced Rum its characteristic taste and striking color. The taste of this spiced rum is reminiscent of cinnamon, cloves and caramel and, in addition to these aromas, also shows a trace of hibiscus on the nose. Despite its very dark color, the Captain Morgan Black Spiced is relatively young and therefore characterized by fruity, floral notes. Although many connoisseurs also like to drink it neat, slightly chilled, it was mainly developed for the popular long drink Captain and Cola. The spiced rum as we know Captain Morgan today is thanks to a family of pharmacists from Kingston. They bought the raw rum and then refined it with herbs and spices, allowed it to mature and bottled it for sale. The CEO of Seagram took notice and ultimately bought the distribution rights. Today Captain Morgan belongs to the Diageo group and has been the best-selling rum brand in the world since 2004, with 54 million litres of rum sold.
